I'm confused?
« on: May 06, 2004, 07:50:54 AM »
I have never owned a Track product before, but I am looking for a strong heavy oil ball.  I am considering an Animal, Unleashed, an Ultimate Inferno, & the Super Carbide Bomb by Lane 1.  As of now those are the products that have been recommended.  I am not thrilled with the Predator, & hate the Icon 300.  I have read a lot about all, and only a little about the Inferno, but still don't know what to choose.  I don't really know how to describe how I throw, so here goes;  above ave. revs, 16-19mph?, & I usually throw the ball from about 18-20 to between 12 & 8.  Any help is gratefully appreciated...

Thanks,
Todd

It would be difficult to make a suggestion without really knowing your specifics. I will give it a try though.

You want an oil ball, I have thrown every one of the balls you listed. Here is what I saw.....

The Super Carbide Bomb is strong, but with a stronger drill layout it did not cover near the boards that the Track Phenom did for me. I currently have an Ultimate Inferno, I am not impressed at all with it.

Now going to Track equipment, the Phenom or the Animal is a ball that I would suggest for you. The Unleashed is a terrific ball, but it tends to go longer than either the Animal or the Phenom. If you are on oil, the Unleashed will still want to use most of its energy for later down the lane.

I have had a Phenom drilled very strong (pin 3 3/4, MB on my VAL close to my positive axis point), and it was awesome on oil. HOWEVER, the Animal is the best ball for oil I have ever thrown. I have it drilled very strong as well, but I took the factory finish (1000 grit compound) off of the ball and sanded to 800 grit with scotchbrite. THIS ball is truely an ANIMAL. I was a tournament this past weekend bowling with guys that had Black Cherry Bombs, Super Carbide Bombs, Ultimate Infernos, Throttles, and Raging Infernos and they could not move their stuff. They had a very limited area that they were able to play. I was able to stand with my feet on 38, and get the ball back from anywhere right of 15. There was a playable shot out there, but when I hit the area that was out of bounds for them, the Animal ignored it. I shot 745 on a condition that breaking 600 was good on.

Goodluck in selecting your ball. If you have any other questions, do not hesitate to ask.

Hey Todd,

Ditto here...my Animal taking down to 400-600 outhooks any ball right now without burning up either.  Make sure you have it drilled with a strong pin and mb placed accordingly to your desired breakpoint.  For heavy oil though, I recommend on to past val, hope this helps.

Of those balls, I would recommend the Animal.
