Mini Review: Xception 5.0
« on: May 12, 2005, 10:50:42 PM »
I threw a few more games with it lastnight and feel comfortable posting a mini review. Just remember: my mini reviews are after usually 6-10 games, I wait until I hit 20-25 games to post a final review in the review section.

BALL: 5 inch pin from PAP, under the bridge MB 3.5 inches right of thumb 3 3/4 from PAP. I have a Rule GP2 with a similiar layout and wanted to see what the 5.0 would do with it. Ball was left in its OOB finish.

Lane Conditions: I have only used it on a THS so far. 36ft oil in the middle, it tapers all of the way to the gutter, buffed to 44ft.

Line: Deep inside line.

Reaction: Due to the name I am going to try to compare this ball to the Xception more than any other. The shot I used this ball on is my center's THS, and I could not keep the 5.0 off of the head pin. Last night I threw on a fresh shot and I had to stand 42 with my feet (I can rev it up, but I am never this far left), My target was between the 6 pin and 10 pin. This was with my usual release, I moved right and tried to fluff it but I still had to stand 28. The backend of the 5.0 is unmatched by any ball I have thrown. The 5.0 reads the mids far better than the Xception does and has more backend.

Impact: This is different than the Xception's, the 5.0 has the same strength when it reaches the pins, but it tends to keep them lower.

Readability: For me, this ball is not a ball to read the lanes with. The backend reaction is just far too strong.

COMMENTS: This was a much needed ball in the Track Line. I was a big fan of the FreakOut, to this point Track's only pearl particle w/ asymmetrical. The 5.0 is a ball for all releases and styles of game. Just drill it accordingly...crankers that love to toss the left gutter cap are gonna love it. The OOB finish is 1000 compound, if you want a little more backend and length apply a coat of Magic Shine, if you want a little less then just take the gloss off of the ball.

ITS CURRENT PLACEMENT: For those of you curious where it fits in with the rest of the equipment this is what I see. Not quite the oiler that the GP2 is, it will cover the med/heavy conditions very well, similiar to the Arsenal Aggressive but the 5.0 does it in a different manner with more energy in the backend.

does it look like the pic on the website? Track is probably the worst comapny when it comes to this. the ball pics they put out for a new ball are no where close to the real ball. I have seen a few arsenals and they dont look like the 2 on the site. I realize that the pics they use are probably early production or even test balls.

Nice Review!

Ex - Since the Xception 5.0 and the Animal both have the Fang Particle coverstock. How do you compare these two balls matched up? I'm wondering if this would go under my Animal or Over it. Currently I have my GP-2 as an Oiler and have my Animal under the GP-2. How would your Animal compare to the the Xception 5.0?

Thanks bud!

kay,

when you have equiment with colors swirled like this ball it is going to be difficult to find 2 of them that look like alike. The gold on the ball resembles the Animal, but the purple is a grape color. It is a nice looking ball.

ram,

Compared to the Animal I still think the Animal is going to be better in the soup. On a house shot or a shorter pattern with fresh backends this ball could hook more than any other ball in Track's line, the backend is THAT strong.

oz,
Compared to the Rule the 5.0 is not as smooth. It is stronger at the breakpoint. As far as overall hook goes I think they are going to be similiar, but they will offer a different look.

EX, Am I correct in the assumption that this is a good skid/snap ball?

Wylie,

Not really----I did my best to refrain from using that term when it comes to this ball, because when I think skid/flip I think of a ball like the original Xception. This ball is more like arc/flip. It pics up a roll earlier than the Arsenal angular, but not as early as the Rule or Arsenal Aggressive.

Sounds like it may be a good fit between my GP2 (Once I get it redrilled) and my FAZ....What do you think?

Ram,

The Animal has Mega Fang, while the Phenom and Phenom Unleashed had Fang Particle, albeit a different load as the Unleashed was a light load particle.

Carl,...How would you estimate the ball might have reacted if the MB was 4 3/4" to 5" from PAP? The reason I am asking is that most of my balls are drilled under thr ring finger with the PIN 4" to 4 1/2" from PAP and MB 4 1/2" to 5" from PAP and am wondering how this ball would work with my style with these drillings.

Brickguy,

That MB placement would make it more useful for your game. It would fit below your GP2, but with the backend movement is offers up it would be above the other stuff in your arsenal. If this ball had been released when you were having your "issues" with your Impluse, this would have been the ball of choice.
