MX10 as Medium Oil Benchmark Ball?

Hi, all. Long-time lurker, first time poster. I am a low- to moderate speed, low to almost moderate rev-rate (i.e. not quite a stroker, not quite a tweener!) 160 average bowler, and I'm looking to fill a particular hole in my line up. I really like that Track balls seem to, on average, go long. That's something missing from my lineup.

I wanted a ball tuned for medium oil, medium length (40-42') house shots. I'd be drilling it with a tamer layout for use as a control ball for games 3,4, and 5 when the patterns start breaking down. With my relatively low velocity, I find I'd like a ball that goes quite long with a strong back-end. Right now I find that by game 3 I'm not able to play far enough left to be comfortable

Currently in the arsenal (all at box finish):

DV8 Ruckus Feud (best ball for games 1 and 2)
Brunswick Meanstreak Beatdown (my heavy oil / sport shot ball)
Motiv Venom Toxin (light to medium oil angular ball)
Brunswick T-Zone (spareball)

My thoughts so far: I really like the look of both the Track Tour X and MX10, and, to a lesser extent, the 503A. Also under consideration are the Brunswick C-system VersaMax and maybe a Storm HyRoad Pearl. But I'm leaning towards the Track balls.

Any comments or thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Sounds like you want something that is going to pick up for you and not go as long, the Mx10 is a very good ball out the bag certainly benchmark like you have in your subject line.  The Mx10 with the box finish is going to get through the front part of the lane and give you a sharp reaction once it hits the friction (with a tamer drill you may see more of a controlled continuous movement off the friction)

I am thinking the Lx16 would be perfect for you that is a ball design for your rev rate and your game.  Now you are able to have a bench mark ball (Mx10) and when that is not enough you are able to pull out the Lx16 and have the reaction you need.  The Lx16 will get down the lane without an issue because of the 3000 box finish.  Also your local proshop should be able to put the ball back at box finish whenever you like.

I would suggest an HX05 with a stronger layout and possibly removing the shine from it. The MX10 is a great ball but I think it's too strong for the 3-5 games unless you start out on a flood. I had a 910A for awhile which uses the same core, it's a big core that will burn up energy if there's not enough oil, I could only use mine when there was oil or some carrydown.

Hi, all,

Great suggestions. I'll take a second look at the LX16 and HX05. I was a bit worried about the MX10 being a bit too much through transition. The house condition I bowl on is a 39.5' medium volume pattern that stays pretty wet through the heads but breaks down in the back ends pretty quickly.

Track doesn't have a huge showing here in the Portland area, so it might be a stretch to find someone local to talk to. My local pro shop guys (Tigard Bowl) are Motiv and Brunswick staffers.

FYI: Speed off the monitors is ~ 13 MPH, and the last time I checked my rev rate it was about 230 RPM. I need to get the rest from my pro shop; always forget to write them down.

Also, FYI, I grew up in Simi Valley, and remember Harley's Simi Bowl quite well. Early morning P.E. classes there from Royal High School for the epic win!

Based off of what you described, I would highly suggest the HX05 or the 505C^2.

 The LX16 and MX10 I believe would be too strong for what you are looking for. I'm the only one in my house that really throws Track, I have a 505C^2 that has really caught the attention of some people. At first I had it drilled 45 x 4 x 30 it had good length and backend without being over/under. I just had it plugged and redrilled 60 x 5 x 60  now it is long and smooth, I can move right of everyone and have a great look to the pocket playing straight.
