Mean Machine first impression
« on: September 01, 2006, 07:11:46 PM »
Drilled up a Mean Machine today unfortunately I only got to roll 1 game before I had to clock in for work.
14# 2oz
4" pin
4oz top

I wanted to try something a little different so I drilled it 5 1/4" pin up 4 1/4" with a 4 1/2" MB no weight hole ending statics were 3/4 pos and 1/4 finger.
I was surprised at how well it retained energy even for a pin as high as it is.
I rolled it on a left over shot from the Senior League we had this morning. Most of them were throwing either plastic or an older reactive definitely no sponges being thrown so the shot wasn't too bad. Not exactly a real good shot to demo the ball on but I just couldn't wait.
I played break points of 4, 7, and 10 and between 13 and 18 @ the arrows to try and get an idea of where it performed best. I didn't really see that it carried best from any of them though, lucky for me the carry was great from all of them.
Shot 243 with an open (3rd frame) on my first shot where I moved in to 18 at the arrows, didn't trust it and got soft with my speed went through the nose and left a 3,6,9,10. I will gladly take a 243 considering I was moving around quite a bit.
After that 1 game I don't think I will have any trouble trusting that it will come back cause it will recover from almost anywhere.
The shot at this center is usually pretty open but I don't recall it ever looking this easy when the ball is coming off of my hand. I usually get over hook if I get it outside of 8 but the Meanie never over-reacted except for the time I got way too soft, can't blame that on the ball though.
It just doesn't seem fair to the pins that a ball can have so much power and still have a very controlled reaction.

I plan on making a vid in the next week or so to do my best to show this balls capabilities although I doubt I will be able to do it justice.

Would anyone like to see it compared to any of the following?
Robo, Phenom Unleashed, Machine, Elite Remix, Rule, or Threat.

I'd especially like to see a comparison between the MM and the Phenom Unleashed, which happens to be my favorite ball right now.  I'm curious as to how close together these two are on a fresh THS.  I'm sooooo close to buying the MM, but I'm also very strongly considering a Hammer Black Widow because of the rave reviews on it, especially after reading the reviews at BowlingBall.com.  Any thoughts on how the MM and the Black Widow Compare?
