I went in to the alleys early so I could throw a few games(wanted to test my shoulder,it has been hurting for a while when I twist it certain ways and I am starting to get a cold) so I had no expectations going in. When I got there, they were just starting to oil the lanes for league. I jumped on a pair, and when he got to me, I asked if he could throw the THS on the left lane and the Friday Night Scratch CLassic league shot on the right lane. He said sure, just remind me to reoil the lanes before league! I went upstairs and grabbed the Delta and the GP2 which is drilled identical to it, both with factory surface. Here is the drills, in essence, almost a 5x3 for me. Supposedly, the Scratch league shot has a thicker volume of oil, more tapered outside (5-5 vs the 10-10 on the THS) and a longer pattern, although no buff at the end vs the buff on the THS shot.

I started on the right lane (Scratch shot) with the GP2. Was standing on 16 playing around 12 at the arrows...ball made a nice move to the pocket and was crushing the pins. After 3 or 4 solid shots in a row, I took out the Delta, stood and hit the same spot. You could tell the Delta was laboring in the oil but still made a GREAT move at the backend, but kept hanging 10s...it was just a smidge too late. Moved 2 and 1, and crushed the pocket all day.
Moved to the left lane, which was the THS shot...hadn't bowled ont he fresh THS shot in a long time (only bowl the scratch league at my home house, and is my only league this year). Took my GP2 back out, stood where I stood on the right lane, and actually crushed the pocket playing the same line....and I repeated the shot....I was sort of dumbfounded honestly! I figured it would A) Go high or brooklyn or B)Roll out from the less oil. But I couldn't tell yet. I then picked out the Delta, stood the same place as the GP2 and HOLY SMOKES....the Delta went SUPER HIGH shot after shot. I then moved 3 and 3 and finally got it to the pocket, but left a 4 pin. I moved 1 more with my feet and that was the trick! Crushed the pocket and was outhooking the GP2 by 4 boards EASILY!
Conclusion: While the GP2 gave me a consistant shot from pattern to pattern, the Delta was able to show me the true difference in the lanes. It hooked on the lighter stuff and labored on the heavier stuff. The GP2 was burning early on the left lane, but you would have NEVER known it if you didn't have another ball to test it against. I proved to myself and the guys working that there really was a difference in reactions the lane can give you just based on the pattern, and that the GP2 REQUIRES higher volumes of oil for it to properly work!
