My Vacu Jig arrived yesterday!!!!
« on: August 30, 2005, 03:28:47 AM »
I was VERY excited...until I realized it weighed 750 pounds (without the stand it sits on) and we had to lug it upstairs up 20 steps to the drilling room...unfortunatley the bowling alley does not have a room downstairs for drilling, and only the display case is downstairs....what a night it was..it took 3 hours of disassembling and 5 guys to take it upstairs.

Should be drilling by the end of the week!

Yeah Clint, that thing isn't light.  But it works good.  The biggest problem I have with the one I use at our center is that it doesn't like getting a very good suction, especially when drilling thumbs because usually the lable or the serial number of some balls is right on the edge of the suction ring you it won't hold.  You should have got that clamp ring that you can use.  Other than that, it works good.  Ours is a little older and sometimes the digital display messes up, but I like it.  I haven't tried to do oval thumbs on it because not alot of people use ovals in New Hampshire.  Good luck and if you have any questions, just write.

I did order the clamp and digitals....I worked on one before at the shop I worked in 5 years ago...the clamp was the only way to go on cutting down plug!

We had some of the same issues with our jig. Get a industrial rubber band:

http://www.rockler.com/ecom7/product_details.cfm?cookietest=1&offerings_id=10622

Something like that, prefferably a round one instead of a flat. The round will roll right up the outer edge of the jig and sit snuggly under the ball.

Or you can always go ghetto, and put a plastic bag over the engraving.

A piece of scotch tape can also be put over the engraving if that is an issue.
