Author Topic: Need help and advice on a new ball. (Read 2601 times)

I am a 190 to 200 average bowler. Pretty much straight up and in, and don't have alot of hand to speak of. I have been trying to do more with my hand to kick out the corners and only creating more problems then helping. Sorry to the question now, due to not having alot of hand I typically leave alot of 10 pins, try all of the usually adjustments and still leave them. I have been throwing a WMB and love the way it hits the pocket. Typically bowls alot of ABT events and nationals. I am looking for something new and don't have alot of knowledge about how to drill a ball up or what ball to use on what condition. Can someone point me in a direction to learn.

I have been spending alot of money on equipment but haven't got a clue if it is the right equipment, or if I had it driller correctly.

Need help and want to learn before I spend more money carelessly

Bob,

I think we would need info on what type of condition you are looking to use the ball(s) on. Also, one top of the conditions.....what tyep of reaction are you looking for.......and if you are able, please let us know more about your game....PAP location...approx speed etc...

Hey Bob,

Along with the requested personal info, what state are you bowling ABT? I have about 7-8 Master titles in Northern California and one of my good friends/customer has won the Master National Title twice. I am very familiar with the condition used out here in California and somewhat at the National level also so it may help some in trying to match a ball with layout for you.

I am bowling in Wisconsin, and have a list of my equipment on my personal info.
Typically here in WI we use a sport shot, but from time to time the local establishment will not allow for the condition and you use the house shot. I have found myself using the WMB for most of the shots, and occassionally using my Eraser. Problem I have been experiencing is that the WMB (I have used it both with box finish and scotchbrited) is to jumpy for the sport shot at times and the Eraser doesn't move enough. This forces me to work more with my hand or lane positioning which makes the shot even more difficult, and then when I finally find it 10 pins.

I am looking for something for the sport shot for local ABT events. Because I don't have alot of hand, I would like a something I can run up boards 10-12 with a nice break to the pocket that pushes. Speed I am typically around 14 - 16 MPH, Weapon of Mass Bias is set up about 3 1/2" left of PAP and and ring finger is about 2 3/4" below the orange dot.

Hey Bob,

Based on the condition you describe, I'd suggest an Arsenal Reactive with a smoother layout (pin under bridge on centerline w/ cg kicked right some). One quick question, what happens if you move in a little and swing the track with your WMB on that shot?

I have been trying to learn how to swing it a little more and still working on it. I have found that my speed tends to be to fast to swing it on the sport shot since I don't turn the ball that much. I have asked for my equipment to be drilled up with max hooking power and yet I still don't see much hook. So in answer to your question when I try to play a little deeper and swing it a little more I usually don't make it back to the pocket.

Issues here could be lack of knowledge of how to drill up a ball and set a ball up for a specific lane condition. Drill to go long and hook hard and late or hook more evenly down the lane. I have never been able to play a really deep shot setting it down on say 20 and swing it out to 5 and then hard back to the pocket. Don't know if that is something you have to have your equipment drilled up to do or mostly just talent that I might be lacking.

It has been my experience that for someone like myself the equipment is everything. It seperates me from the guys with higher averages. That is not to be said that I am not interested in practicing to make myself better. In the past I would typically throw 20 -30 games of week of just practice. But even the proper type of practice will drive results.

I am sorry I am getting long here. I am just the average guy looking to push myself to compete with the big guys. Trying to learn how to read the lanes, the equipment and know what to do at the right time. Grant it if I knew all of this already I would own a pro shop or be on tour.

Verz Dont know how long u have been bowling abt in california, but if u are in the Bay Area ABT if u swing the ball outside say 10 or 8 and out that is the out of bounds. ball is gone ,no recovery...Got to play inside so ball doesn't go outside farther than the 12 /11 or 10 so u stay out of that area.
