track ball
« on: February 03, 2005, 04:23:16 AM »
Hey guys, I have been looking for a new ball as of late and I'm having some trouble finding which ball i think is best for mine. I have been impressed as of late by the amount of people in my local alley going to Track for balls. I think I would also like to give it a shot. I currently bowl a 180 average on heavily oiled wood lanes. If anybody is familiar with a storm flash flood, it is the ball I have used over the last year and I think it is about time for a new ball. Of the track balls I have come down to the conclusion that I would like either the Rule, GP2, or the xception. I bowl a between a medium and straight line(in regards to Track's website). I just would like further opinion before I buy a ball.

how fast do you throw? do you know your PAP? Rev Count? any of that stuff?

If your lookin for a medium oil ball I am not sure the GP2 is what your lookin for but that is just my opinion.

I'd say if anything I throw a speed of between 13 and 17mph. My rev rate is probably low to medium. Hope that helps.

What conditions do you bowl on? Heavy oil, medium oil, dry conditions, second shift, etc. Also, what would you like the ball to do? Do you want something that hooks early (GP2), or something that hooks down the lane(Xception)? A great medium ball would be the original Rule. I have quite a few customers who use the original Rule as the first ball out of the bag. If it hooks too much, they go to something less. If it goes straight, they go looking for something that will hook more.

This also depends on how much money you want to spend...bowling balls nowadays are an investment for some people with their budgets. You have to make the right decision because they can not buy 3 or 4 a year now.

Let me know ANY additional info. We all would be more than happy to help!

Well I do bowl on heavily oiled lanes, and I normally bowl on pretty fresh lanes because our lanes are oiled all right before leagues. And if it helps any I try to position myself about the 13 or 14 board then try to throw it down the 7 or 8 board. I also prefer a rather late powerful hook...which is pretty much needed on heavy oil

Actually an early strong roll is what you need on heavy oil. Therefor, go with a GP2. It will roll earlier than the Rule or Xception but still give you some backend if drilled appropriately.

DarcFyrebyrd,

It is very difficult to give a suggestion based on the info you have provided so far. The Xception will finish stronger on the backend than the GP2, but on heavy oil it will go too long and not be able to recover. The GP2 is probably the better of those 2 for you to try. The GP2 is going to handle oil better.

The Flash Flood is not a strong backend finishing ball, so if that is what you are currently using the GP2 will handle more oil than that, and it will give you more backend.

I agree with Ex, GP2 will be much stronger as Ex has said. Cover will be more versatile as well.

Hey Darc,

Based on that, I'd also suggest going with the GP2.  It can easily handle the heavier oils we currently see today.
