Need help with Oil Ball
« on: December 29, 2005, 10:02:51 PM »
I need some help with a new ball for oil. I am watching the reviews and leaning towards the Reactive at this point. I love the asymmetrical but they lower the track more than I like. My rule is the first ball out of the bag when the lanes are normal. The animal is a bit on the touchy side at times. The Rule is drilled with the pin under finger and 3 3/8 to PAP and the MB is on Val line and 3 3/8 to PaP. A one inch weight hole is straight in to remove weight and giving 1/8 finger 1/8 side and 1/2 top static weights. This ball gives me a lot of revs and good backend end movement. My ball speed about 15 MPH on average and stroker release. The PAP 4 7/8 and 7/8 up. The Animal is drilled pin above both fingers and 5 to the PAP and MB on strong position and is 3 inches to PAP. The Cg is up and over to give this ball length with 3/4 side and 3/8 finger static. The main reason I listed the two ball layouts is to see which way I need to go on ball choise, and a  better layout for oil. Some Tackers don't seem to like the delta but it may be an option for me with the right drill. I have not been on for a while but still staying up with the reviews as much as possible.
thanks,

I think the Arsenal, with the low rg, can handle as much oil as you need it to with the proper surface adjustments. As for a drill....I would go 3 3/8 pin to pap with the cg stacked....leverage to maximize what the ball is going to do for you....get it into a heavy roll quick.

Hey Jodyk24,

How've you been?  I'd say the Reactive is about 3-4 stronger than the Rule and I also like Clint's suggestion on the layout since the leverage drill seems to be working for you.  Just in case you want a little more separation, I recommend the Robo Rule as it is another 3-4 stronger than the AR.  Hope this helps some bud.

jodyk24: I know I'm not a staffer but I'm a believer in the RoboRule so far based on the two weeks I've had with this piece. I've been able to throw it in three different houses (2 wood, 1 half synthetic/half wood) with great results in all three. The layout for the ball based on my specs is in my profile. On a THS I'm able to play up the oil line or a small swing from 15 out to about 6 or 7 with great recovery and carry. If the lanes are tougher I've been to play deeper inside of 4th arrow and still get enough energy for the back end. I also own the Rule and Animal and I think based on what I've seen the ball is a good 3 or 4 boards stronger than the Animal in oil.

Guess it also depends if you like a light load particle ball or a reactive heavy oil ball. The Rule Delta 1 would be complementary to your Rule and the RoboRule I believe would fit a touch above the Rule Delta 1 in terms of strength, more of an arcing motion versus the snappiness of a RD1.

Hope this helps, more food for thought.

I agree with the ball selection and the layout. The reactive is definately going to give you more than the Rule does. With its more dull OOB finish the Reactive gets a good early read on the lane and you will more than likely not sacrifice much backend with the leverage layout either.

Goodluck,
Carl
