Yes.  GOO LS (Xception cover) with fang particle.

The ball looks really cool in person!! Great looking ball.  Can't wait to drill mine.  Won't be able to till next week as I'm heading to Tulsa to watch ckchappy bowl the WIBC/Queens.

so this things hook rating of 40-31, similar to the animal, puts it on medium oil? I don't even know why track bothers with a hook rating scale, it is SO blatantly wrong. There is no way that this ball can be this much stronger than the freak was when it first came out (32-25) and yet still be for medium oil.

I guess I complain too much, but I'm with Stanksi on this one. The length, hook rating, back end all are equivalent to the Rule (that they have clearly deep-sixed by their add placing the 5.0 squarely between the GP2 & the X-ception) and compare equally to the Animal (other than the length).

Hopefully, we'll get a few side-by-sides from someone soon

(and, oh yeah, I'd like to get one soon, too......................)

So it really IS that strong. I thought from the specs it would be more along the lines of a freak out, guess i was wrong.

I am confused by their hook ratings as well.  I don't see how a ball like the Rule or Arsenals can be called "medium" balls when they're stronger than my Mutant, supposedly a heavy-oil ball.  Similarly for the Slash, a "heavy-oil" ball with lower numbers than my Triple Threat, a medium ball.  I'd like a Rule, especially now that they're discontinued, but I'm concerned that it'd be WAY too strong to replace my Mutant.

Are these numbers relative to their intended conditions?  The Rule hooks "40" on a medium shot, while the Mutant hooks "34" on a heavy shot.  Then what might the Rule do on a heavy shot?  30?  32?

I understand that there are a lot of things that go into how much a ball "hooks", including where and how smooth the breakpoint is.  But if one feels the need to give numerical figures, they should at least be better explained.

The 5.0 is a very pretty ball, and like the rest of Track's equipment, I'd love to have one.

Shelley, its just a marketing ploy by track, as most of the time if you tell someone it hooks more than the last release (even though it doesn't), they'll believe you. Keep doing this for a while and your scale will have to be increased.

If you want to replace your mutant, you might want to look at the rule gp2, the core is very adaptable and the ball can easily be similar to your mutant, even though it is stronger.

It helps to check the length and backend numbers as well.  And it's why I read this forum.

I don't know if I'll get to replace it until later this summer.  I had planned on doing it this month before the Double Diamond tournament but since my MIL moved in, money's been a little tighter than I'd like.  I have to use my winter league prize money to pay for summer bowling instead of new bowling balls.  How dumb is that?

I'll keep the GP2 in mind, though.  Since the driller I'm going to is 2 hours away, I'm kinda limited to whatever he has in stock, but he usually keeps a pretty good amount of Track stuff.  Maybe I'll have to get a 5.0.

According to Track, their numbers are "Dull-Polished". However, their ball selector gives you a "finish" that they are using to come up with their recommendation rather than simply the box finish.

By the way, I applaud Track for wanting to get this up on their site asap but again, as of right now, their own ball selector tells me I do not need this ball no matter how I throw the ball and the drill patterns they recommend do not have the MB placements showing....................

That's because, in my opinion, the amount a ball hooks in this, the resin/particle age of bowling balls has nothing to do with how much oil it can handle. That was true for urethane but not for resin.

I think charlest hit it on the head.  The hook ratings are relative to the current balls. The oil volumes and types have changed over the past few years so what was a heavy oil ball last year or two years ago is medium today.  That's why the Heat is medium-light and the GP2 is heavy with everything else in between.  This is the first year where I could use Rules/GP2s/Aggressives whereby last year it was nothing but Crunch Times, Threats and Track Magics.  Furthermore, as they dry up, I've still had to stick with strong covers because of the oil downlane.

First let me state this, the GP2 hooks far more than the Mutant.

I think comaring the 5.0 to the AI is a good comparison, but the 5.0 has more backend.

I believe the 5.0 is a replacement for the Rule. Remember, the Rule has been removed from the current equipment list on Track's board. And....the 5.0 is much stronger than the Freak.
