First, I'm pretty sure this was discussed on this site before but I missed it, does Clean'n'Dull alter the surface of a ball. I have a polished Artillery, Equation and Desert Heat that desperately need a deep clean but I don't want to remove the polish.

Also, has any one polished a Mean Machine up? I'm thinking of polishing mine to save some energy for backend reaction. I like the way it rolls in a flood but anything less than that it seems to roll out in the back. Will polish allow the ball to save some energy and move on the back?

In spite of the name, C&D does not alter the surface. If the ball is polished, it'll stay polished. If it's 200-grit, it'll stay 200-grit. That confusion is partly why Clean & Tacky is around (though C&D is on the "approved at any time" list while C&T is on the "Not during sanctioned competition" list).

I don't have a Mean Machine, but yes, some polish should help keep it from rolling out on not-heavy shots, but you'll lose some oil handling capability. If it's a heavy oil ball for you now, after polishing it'll probably be more medium-heavy and may not respond quite as well in carrydown.

i would try brunswick's ruff buff polish on your mean machine. it will give it the length you want and the backend you want. yet you will still be able to use the ball in med. - heavy oil. if you start hitting a lighter pattern, you have balls in your arsenal to go to.

Polishing a M&M works well. Have a stroker buddy named Ken Gifford who just shot 290 with a polished Mean Machine today at Rose Bowl in Portland. You know he wants that first frame back!

Hey uwec,

shelley is correct. Our Clean and Dull will not alter surface on the ball. It is safe to use on any ball.

I have tried polish on my Mean and it definitely made it skid further and store more energy. You may not have seen this before so I will mention it again for everyone. Due to the larger pores that exist on the Mean Machine, it responds better to the thicker oils that are used these days. If your center is not using a high enough density or doesn't double oil their centers, the Mean can track thru that very evenly and not offer you a strong backend reaction. Hope this helps explain some....
