Unleashed revisited.
« on: March 15, 2004, 06:54:20 PM »
I have Phenom Unleashed balls.

The first one was drilled 4.5 x 5.75mb. 2” above midline
the second ball 4 x 4.5mb 3” above midline.

Both thrown on the same lanes . league night fresh oil pattern.

Unleashed #1 never turned the corner. Had it 1000 grit then tried it polished. It really suited broken down lanes where there was more friction and it could turn over.

Unleashed #2 Turns the corner big time. Revs up nice and faces the pocket very well. That was in Box condition.

What does this mean? You had better know you PAP and how you want the ball drilled.
The core is very sensitive and ½” either way does matter.

The core will maintain the axis for a longer period of time and you really need to match the core and cover to the lane condition. Where most all other weak MB balls and symmetrical cores the cover alone dictates more that the layout pattern. Some say 70-80pct cover the next important feature is the pin. I think the morheus core is more like 50 pct cover. 25 pct pin location 25pct Mb location. At least that is my unproved non scientific observation based on throwing over 20 ball with 2 distinctive bowling styles  in the last 18 months.

Now I do believe that some ball hit harder. There are some distinctive grouping to the hit.

Can you tell one hard hitting ball from another hard hitting ball? No. But you can notice the difference between the hardest hitting group to the next group.

For comparison V2 particle, V2 strong, Power diesel, Turbo diesel vs. Unleashed.

Now I have scored well with all of these balls. I did think there may have been better pin action with the hammers but I scored better with the V2’s

There is a huge difference when throwing the unleashed. The pins fly. It is an explosive reaction when I hit the hole. Half pocket hits send messengers all over. Where as I would leave a lot of seven pins on this type of hit, now I trip them out.

. If you let the ball read the lanes and make the right adjustments the ball will reward you.  it is a step above and worth the extra cost vs. Mid range balls.

Thank you Omega, very well put.  Not too many individuals have the luxury of having the same ball drilled differently to actually see the "real" strength of the Morpheus cores.  Hopefully more people will read this before they drill out their new Track ball accordingly because it DOES make that much difference.  Thanks for the great info!

well it cost me, LOL!

the first one was used. not to bad of a deal.

I wanted more backend out of my ball as I already have a lot of mid-lane balls. the first one hit so good that I was either going to redrill it or get a new one. after polishing it I learned that on a tracked up lane, that still had enough juice on the heads to get down lane, it was awesome. so I broke the seal on the wallet and had one setup so I could get the best shot from it on league night.

First night with it 682. not to bad fresh from the drill press. as soon as the ball "brakes in", it will probably be much better and not react so strong to the transition. I had to move a lot faster than I thought. as it was I moved to late and threw 3 splits. I did miss one 10 pin. stuck on the approach
Now that I learned to read this ball, nights like that will be 7's.

Later.

Mainly the Morpheus because of their design.  However, it is taught that any ball with a mass bias differential greater than .008 will hold it's PSA and thus allow for better shaping or control of the breakpoint.  Symmetrical blocks do not apply, no mb.  Hope this helps..

Thanks Rick,.....I said that because I've heard that the Morpheous core is very complex and you can do a million and one things with it....
