New to Track..Need advice on Xception

I bought this ball used and only needed to modify the fingers from no grips to grips and already had changeable thumb with my pitch exactly. I drilled the holes for grips and cheated enough to nail span.So I decided to roll for a bit without a redrill and am not sure if it is doing what it is drilled to do?
  Track Xception
  15 lbs  RH
  3" pin drilled 3x5(cg)x7(mb)  next to ring 2 1/4" above mid line
  mb below and left of thumb 1" @ 7 oclock
  cg center of grip (label leverage)  no weight hole
  My PAP is 5 over and 1 1/8 up
  Another bit of interest is that the cover seems lightly scuffed with scotchbrite and sand lines are vertical and in line with track somewhat..not dull necessarily but not shiny either.
  Here is my read on reaction..I like to play a swing 12 to 8 or even straight up 8 or 9...our house is wood brunswick oiled 10 to 10 to 38ft and buff to 42..back ends are so so at best and not a lot of units but long. I can swing on fresh shot 12 to 8 in practice and ball is very smooth, predictable and hits well...even arc not flip but continuous. Sometimes only 2 or 3 frames into game I will leave a 2 pin, move one right, leave another or swish one, next frame light bucket, move right better, etc...We do not have enough oil to really carry down a lot(very little on ball surface and never more than one ring) As game progresses have fairly good look up 8 after moving 4 boards right with feet...But can switch balls and immediately have to move left due to over react up 8...Can move back to left the same 4 boards and swing 12 to 8 with a freakout 2 1/4 pin drilled 4x4 3/4x6   1 3/4 above mid under ring and mb below and right of thumb @ 5 oclock with box surface.An older Original Eraser will play the swing about the same. WHEW! Here is my question..Is this ball really that much weaker than the freakout or is the mb position and or the surface creating the weaker reaction. I don't think it is burning up because a pull to 10 doesn't climb and is bucket city when other balls will set but finish when pulled into the oil line a bit. Will not recover well if miss right a couple either.Thanks guys!

For me the Exception doesnt like carry down. It get a little squirrely on the backend. Try to keep your ball speed down and let it read sooner.

Bigun,    Thanks for the reply...slower does help but still doesn't seem to finish or react like I think it should...I guess my question really is will a polish back to original make this thing come alive or make it squirtier? Or is the mb position killing me being left of thumb slightly...I had a throttle drilled label leverage and even though it hooked ok I had trouble with corners with that ball...maybe this drill just isn't for me...anyone have this ball with mb left of thumb? position 1 on the sheet.   Alzgarvin

Odds are that the MB placement left of the thumb (this is the control placement) is what is keeping the ball so tame.

I have 90% of my equipment drilled with the mb left of the thumb, and that is fo a controlled reaction, as it tames down the overall movement of the ball.

Hey alzgarvin,

As the guys state, this is definitely a control drill.  You mentioned pos#1 on the drill sheet, if you have access to that sheet, look on the second page about mb's being 6-7 inches away from PAP (near track side of thumb) and it states that it is for delayed roll and smooth arc.  Sounds like it doing exactly what it's supposed to, hope this helps explain some.

I have a slightly different possibility.  My Xception will move through carrydown if I keep it rolling end over end -- too much sideroll and carrydown makes it much less effective.  It is especially important that you keep the ball rolling AND your speed up, because though it reacts like a pearl, the cover is quite aggressive and the ball expends energy very quickly.  In essence, what I see is that if you tend to get around the ball a bit and have carrydown, the ball expends all its energy trying to fight through the carrydown and either doesn't finish at all or rollsout at the pocket.

I have used this one on carrydown and quite successfully (300 recently in a final game of a set).  But you have to keep it firm and rolling.  IMHO.

This is exactly what is happening to me.  Can you please give me some tips on how to keep my ball rolling?  My ball is laid out just like alzgavin.  I bowled with this ball for the first time last night on medium oil with carry down, and I could barely keep my ball on the lane.  It would travel about 38ft and then make a hard arc to the other side of the lane going brooklyn or most times miss the pockett completely.

How do I over come this type of reaction?  Should I try and polish my ball more?

Hey Scratch,

You can polish it for more length but my question is where are you finishing at the foul line and what is your target?  If you're not too deep already for comfort, I'd say to try moving left with your feet (5 boards) and your target about (3 left) and see what happens.  Basically, try to keep moving left if you have an inside oil line to lean up against so we can get the ball to travel thru the correct proportions of skid, hook and roll.  Hope this helps..

I tried moving left all night.  I ended up having to line up at 35th board, aiming between the 4th and 5th arrow.  I'm not used to playing an inside line this deep, but that was the only way I could keep it right of the head pin or hit the pocket.  Playing a line that deep was also very unforgiving, because when I missed left my ball went straight brookelyn or worst, with very little carry.  When I missed right, I hit the wall and ball wouldn't hook back.

I struggled with my X-ception all night.  I hope polishing it up will give me the length I want.  I did throw one game with my ultimate inferno, I bowled a 235.  I was hoping the X would be my go to ball for medium - medium light oil, but as of now the verdict is still out......

By the way my UI is polished to 1500 with a 12:00 layout, pin above and between the bridge, CG stacked below in the grip, with a x-hole for flair on my VAL.
