What is the machine's oob surface?
« on: July 08, 2006, 01:41:17 PM »
I now it is magic shine, but about what grit is it? I need it a little stronger (high speed/lower revs)so what would be a good grit to start at?

Thanks

George

George,

The problem could be in your layout. How is the ball set up? Do you know your PAP?

OK...the Machine's surface IS NOT Magic Shine....OOB it is compound (Clean n Sheen). If you want to get a stronger reaction out of the ball.........you could try to sand it down a bit maybe to 600grit and then apply a bit of Magic Shine

The ball is pin up drilled stacked so I know it will smooth out the transition.  But it is having a hard time facing up even on my house shot with dry backends.  It has about 10 games on it so it may not had enough time for the cover to break in.  Oh yeah, pap 4 up 3/4 and I have a lot of axis tilt.

By pin up stacked....what exactly do you mean? Do you know where the MB is located in relation to your thumb?

No prob bud. Let me tell you this.....for a highspeed low revs player that is a horrible layout.

that ball will push down the lane....ALOT.

Try sanding the ball to 600 and throw it dull before trying polish. See if that helps.

Goodluck,

Yeah I knew that the layout wasn't the best but I didn't want it to overlap my balls all being heavy oil strongly drilled.  Being pearl I knew it would go longer.  I think I'll just take it to 4000 abralon and see what happens.

Thanks

4000 abralon will make it weaker

Really? in my brief experience going from anything polshed to 4000 no polish has always been stronger for me.

The grit under the compound is lower...probably 1200....that cover is stronger than 4000 abralon. If you want to use Abralon....try like 2000

2000 may be good I don't like to mess with the covers too much.

Hi George,

I definitely agree with Excaliber here.  The mass bias positioning is in a pretty weak position for you.  I drilled my Machine #2 like this and it's about 5-6 boards weaker compared to Machine #1 (3 3/8x3 3/8mb).

I understand you didn't want anything too strong but the Machine's mass bias is pretty strong, so proper or accurate placement for reaction shape is very important.  If you're speed dominant, I'd even go with a lower grit then 2000 to try and get the reaction.  Keep us posted and we'll try to help, thanks.
