Title: not making gp2 anymore?
Post by: kc571 on November 19, 2005, 06:14:42 AM
It seems like they stopped production of the GP2.

why?  are they pushing their other products?  the robo rule and delta?

Why do you say that?
Please share what evidence you have found/learned.

Given Track has no other current production ball for the amount of heavy oil that the GP2 can handle, with an asymmetric core, I cannot see them stopping the production of it. Edited: It does look like the new Robo Rule is particle and has slightly higher hook numbers than the GP2; so it seems possible, but the GP2 is still on the Track website.

By Track's own admission, the Robo Rule is a "Light Load Version of GP2 Particle". So while it may hook more than the GP2, it may not handle as much oil. How much it handles will be seen by people's experience and testing.

The Robo-Rule does come at 800-grit OOB vs. the GP2's 1200-grit OOB (according to their website).  I'd also think that the Robo-Rule won't handle as much oil as the GP2 for the particle load reason ... but I'm really interested in hearing about this compared to the GP2.

I called Buddies Pro Shop and asked why they weren't carrying it.  They said, they were replacing it because it didn't sell...etc...take that for what it's worth.

I also did a search on the web, and only found a few places that still had it.

Fascinating.
But just because Buddies is no longer selling it doesn't mean it has yet been discontinued by Track, although, if sales of it all over are slow, it could mean they might discontinue it in the near future.

Has anyone with connections at Track learned of the GP2's future?

I do not have that kind of connections...however, if you look back at recent intros....the Animal, released January/Feb 2004, was discontinued at the end of last year...so, the GP2, being released January 2005, would *probably* be on the same path, but all of that is decided in San Antonio and only they know when they are going to discontinue stuff, etc. I would love to see the GP2 to stick around longer, and everyone knows how many I have had and purchased, but you never know. I know I will buy a case or more of them if they are discontinued.
