Title: O.K.. What do I do when My exception.......
Post by: Juggernaut on August 28, 2005, 04:05:54 PM
is WAY too strong? It's not drilled overly aggressive (pin 3 1/2 in. from p.a.p. above finger line and m.b. under the thumb) sort of like this:
O O o--(pin)

 O
 x--(m.b.)

First night back in league, first night to use this ball.  I don't know what was happening, but I had to START OUT the night with my feet on 33 and targeting the 17th board. And it only got worse as things went on.

Ended up the night with my feet on 40, sliding almost into the left channel, and targeting 21, just to get the ball to the hole.

What I was/am hoping to do is find a piece that will allow me to move 10-15 boards right ( I am a righty ).

I know it is hard to make recomendations without some specs, but what I am in general asking is, if I had two balls drilled alike and wanted them to be 10-15 boards different, with the exception being the stronger of the two, what ball(s) would I need to look at?

Right now I am looking at the desert heat and the solution ex. I am leaning towards the solution ex. For some reason I really like the looks of this piece.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure you have a stronger drill on the Xception than you think.  Your pin is darn near leverage, and is above your finger line.  With the MB where it is, along with your pin placement, your ball should be retaining a ton of energy for the back.  The cover on that ball is also strong.  As far as a ball recommendation, I simply do not know enough to make a recommendation.  Plenty of knowledgeable users will chime in to help with that.

I feel you were playing on toasted conditions.  The desert heat or the heat would be a great choice for you on this condition.  The layout you have on the xception is still strong with regards to the pin location.

WHile I don't think the Desert HEat is quite called for when the Xception is hooking that much (there must be decent head oil or even the Xception might hit weakly), it does sound like you need a weaker ball, maybe drilled weakly. The Heat would be a go-to when the Xception is hooking too much, but it's NOT going to be 10-15 boards weaker. With a 5" pin it might in the neighborhood of 6-10 boards weaker. Too many variables invovled to be more precise.

I would NOT recommend modifying the Xception; too good a ball for medium-ish conditions.

I agree with these guys...sounds like a Heat with long pin to PAP distance to help it down the lane. Don't touch the X for now...lets see how everything works out!

Can you drill a flare reducing X-hole?

but if he's looking for a 10-15 hook reduction, such a hole would not do anywhere near that much.

Yea, haven't bowled much this summer, but was very familiar with the other team and how they normaly play the lanes.

Seemed to me that everyone on the pair was deeper than normal, but like I said, I haven;t bowled this summer so I am still a bit out of whack and couldn't quite tell if it was more me or the lane condition, but after watching the other team, was leaning toward the shot being dry.

That being said, it also opened my eyes to needing something quite a bit weaker than the exception. I used an Inferno last season with a drill a bit weaker than the exception and thought the exception would be a bit closer to that than it really is. The exception actually seems a bit stronger overall.

 Thanks for the help guys.
