Official KINETIC review
« on: August 30, 2007, 08:31:38 AM »
Ball:
Pin 4 3/4 from PAP 3 inches above my midlane, MB placed towards the thumb 4 3/4 from PAP. No weighthole was needed and I left the coverstock was left in factory finish.

Lane Patterns: Various. I have used this ball on wood lanes, synthetic lanes and a combination of wood and synthetic.

HOOK:
Heavy Oil: The Kinetic is not meant for heavy oil, particularly with the OOB finish. On longer patterns that allow you to square up to the lane it will do well. If you try to swing the ball on a heavier patten it will not have time to recover unless you throw it like Robert Smith or Tommy Jones.

Medium Oil: The Kinetic is perfect for medium patterns and patterns on the heavier side of medium. It is an absolute BEAST on a THS.

Light Oil: I would not venture to use The Kinetic on lighter oil. With the proper layout and coverstock prep it may not do bad, but it is right at home on medium to medium/heavy.

TOTAL HOOK:
The Kinetic will move more in the backend than anything I have thrown or have seen thrown. When it encounters friction it is an instant move towards the pocket. Keep it in the bag on lighter patterns, and on heavier patterns a surface adjustment will definately need to be made.

Control:
With the OOB finish on The Kinetic there is no controlling this ball. When it hits friction it is GONE. To tame the breakpoint a bit use 4000abralon or even 2000 abralon.

Expected Reaction:
I got the look going down the lane I expected out of the layout that I chose to put on this ball....what I did not expect was the change of direction being so strong. I drilled this ball identical to one of the more popular balls from last season and The Kinetic forced me to move 5 boards deeper to keep it from going through the nose.

Readability:
Normally a ball that moves this strong at the breakpoint is not very good for me to read the lanes with. The Kinetic does offer up very strong roll before it reaches the breakpoint, which was a pleasant suprise. Save as when you want to tame the breakpoint, to read a pattern with the Kinetic I suggest using abralon to smoothen the surface a bit.

Strengths:
The movement in the backend is 2nd to NONE! This ball gives a bowler the ability to open up a lane and create area to miss.

Weakness:
The EXTREMES......oil and dry. The Kinetic reads friction so strong that using it on lighter oil would be very difficult. Using the Kinetic on oil is not suggested with the OOB finish because of its built in length.

Comments:
There are many of us that really liked the Power Machine, The Kinetic gives that type of reaction only it is stronger at the breakpoint. With the proper surface adjusment the Kinetic will handle more than its share of oil.

I cannot think of a better ball reaction for Track's new lineup to start out with.

this ball sounds like the machine to me. My machine is controllabel and when it hits dry its left turn now. Hit and carry are good and basically every thing you have said applies to the machine. So whare does the kinetic stack up compared to it or is it just a new ball with the same tricks.

Well I just received my first Kinetic and drilled it up at lunch time.

I was really thinking about laying it out with a Rico. But, when I took it out of the box it had a 4.25" pin so I nixed that idea. I decided to go with a 5" pin to PAP with the MB at 45° and the pin 1 1/2" from my VAL with no extra hole. This placed the pin about an inch above my ring finger. I will throw it tomorrow during lunch and give some feedback. If I remember I will take my video camera down so you can see the reaction.

For my game I am a power stroker with Rev rate of of around 345 - 350 off of C.A.T.S. and about 18.5mph of my hand. I have good axis tilt and rotation. So with this drilling I am expecting to see this ball be clean through the fronts and come off the spot with a pretty angular motion. After I see what I have I may add the extra hole or change the surface to tame the reaction if it's to crazy.

Can't wait to throw it!!!!!

Rick

Well I'm back already. You know how it is got a new ball and just have to throw it. So I called up my buddy and said lets go throw some games. The house we went to has a Brunswick Pro Anvilane surface and were bowling on a 40' house shot with Twister pins.

We went down straight out of the gates no practice and started for score. First off we couldn't believe how the ball rev's up and the move it makes at the break point. The reaction looks skid flip but the ball is in a very heavy roll when it hits the pins. So with the heavy roll I am seeing it it retaining energy very well. Then when it s reving up it's transisitoning from skid, hook and roll very quickly. This makes it sickening at the pocket, what I mean is, it didn't half hit any time the racks were smashed.

Ok down to the games remember no warm ups.

Game # 1: First shot just little high the 4,9 and spare, throw the next three strikes. Then move my feet 7 left to see what I could get out of it and leave a 2,8 and spare the ball almost made it back. move back a little and go sheet for 268.

Game # 2: First two strikes then hang a little and go through the face and leave the 6,10. Didn't have my spare ball so I just through at it and missed left. Even trying to kill it it still check quite a bit. Go sheet the rest of game for 267.

Game # 3: Struck first frame and left a blower 8 pin in the second and spare. Go sheet the rest of the game 280.

Out of the box: 268, 267, 280 for 815

My proshop guy, the manager of the bowl were behind me watching and shaking thier heads in disbelief what this ball was doing.

All I can say is the Kinetic made the lanes look stupid easy.

IF YOU DON'T PUT A KINETIC OR EVEN TWO IN YOUR ARSENAL, THEN YOU ARE GOING TO BE TRULY MISSING OUT.

Tomorrow for lunch I will bowl on an AMF HPL surface with house shot. Will be curious to see the down lane reaction with the higher friction surface HPL's have. I will let you know how it looks.

I have a Kinetic myself but haven't gotten a good look at it yet.  I'll have to give it a try on the THS on Tuesday.  Last Tuesday I used the Rival for most of the night on the THS to get a feel for that, and it was awesome.  I'll try the Kinetic next week!!

Mr. Lebowski, this is Bill Salnicker with the Southern Cal Bowling League, and I just got a, an informal report, that a member of your team, uh, Walter Sobchak, drew a firearm during league play. If this is true of course, it contravenes a number of the league's by-laws, and article 27 of the league...

last week, summer league sweeper, 657 (with 3 missed easy spares ), medium heavy ths synthetics.
this past tuesday, 717, light short oil, clean backends, old beatup wood.
so far the kinetic is everything anyone could want.  clean through the heads and that backend .
tonight is another test.  house with short light oil, tight backends, light ob to the outside, older synthetic.
next monday will be another test, first night of pba experience league.

I figured I would chime in on this one. I just lost a lot of weight. Finally I carved up my arsenel to fit. My Pin up Power machine is a freaking monster. I had to put it away it was so violent in the back end, I was able to play a Leverage weighted Mean Machine and it was not as strong as that Power Machine. I could not get the Freak Out to hit the break point and jump like it normally would, as it was squirting down the lane. That gives you an idea on what that shot was like. I cannot Imagine the Kinetic

The Kinetic was more than a couple of boards stronger at the breakpoint for me than the Power!!! I couldn't believe it either.
