Oft asked.....
« on: April 26, 2004, 12:04:38 AM »
NO, this is not one of those posts asking what your Track arsenal is. What I want to know is what Track ball makes it out of your bag first. What Track ball do you use to read the lanes?

For me it is the Crunch Time. How this ball reacts tells me if the pattern is long, if it has fresh backends and if I will have to play straight up the boards or if I will have to play a deeper line.

What gets me most about me using the Crunch Time for this purpose is that I have never really been able to use a pearl reactive to read the lanes. This ball offers much more "POP" than I expected out of it. Before I used this ball I was using the Roto Grip Apocalypse in the same slot of my arsenal. This ball moves more and hits harder than the Apocalypse did for me. This is saying alot, because because the Apocalypse is an awesome ball.

NOW, just to push this post a little further, What Track ball do you go to second, when you have encountered a shot with carrydown, but there is still the presence of head oil.

My first out of the bag use to be my HAvoc now that it is polished I need to "find" my medium go to ball.

if there is head oil,
and if there is strong backends I got my Animal.
and if I need more backend I goto my Unleashed.

if I need more ball I go my Phenom.

when the heads go I transition usually off whetever ball I was throwing and getting a read from. so from the Unleashed I go the freak out. same hook shape but cleaner through the heads.

I nned a ball to goto after this. I'm thinking of the new ravage from MOrich as track dosen't have a strong MB ball for this dry of a shot.

when My animal is too strong in the mid lane I need a ball to go to. I thinking of an Untamed here if there is still some midlane oil.

after that it down to the Havoc and then to the v2 dry.

Right now, my one/two punch is my Unleahsed and Crunch Time. On my first shift leagues, the Unleashed is out of the bag first and I usually dont need to pull out the CT during either of these leagues because it isnt very often that someone is drying up my area. Now on my second shift league, the CT is first out of the bag as the head oil is lighter and there is a bit of carrydown, but this ball has enough pop on the backend to recover and get to the hole.

When there's some room to the right and the EMB is too early/jumpy my trusty Tritons can still get it done, which one depends on feel mainly. Even though the EMB is the pearl model it's leverage drill makes it plenty of ball for what passes for 'oil' in Australia.

Both my leagues have had decent oil so I've been starting with my Animal 600, then I go to my Unleashed for the carrydown but the track opens up.  This has been my 1,2 punch pretty much if I'm not testing that is...

CrunchTime to warm up.Last two balls of practice one shot each Animal and Unleashed.I make my decision from there.I'm old school and was taught to use the least hooking ball possible to get the job done.

The Unleashed.  Why would I use anything different?  God I love that ball!  My new up and coming favorite is the Phenom.  The more I throw it, the more I like it.

I start practice with the Freak Out. If it skids through the break point I use the Unleashed. If it doesn't have enough angle to carry the ten pin I use the Havoc (Polished with clean and sheen).
