On a lighter note!!
« on: January 22, 2004, 08:02:30 AM »
Is anyone else as pumped about the Animal as I am? The only thing I think that I am going to have to do to this ball is take the Clean n Sheen finish off of it. But I love the Core Idea---and I am very anxious to see what it does on the lanes.

Bob, I have stated many times, Del told me "it is coming" when I asked about the Mutant core in a reactive coverstock. SO---I believe him.

Somebody is confused. Track rates the Animal 40-34 for hook - highest rating for any of its products. BTM rates it ...45 for total hook, less than the Threat (46) for example. For backend the Animal rates a 14.5, less than the CrunchTime (15). So please review the ball after you roll it - I'm curious as to the reaction you get.

I have not recieved my BTM yet, but they also rated the Mutant as a bigger hooking ball than the Super Freak, I did not see that.

Bowlers Journal gives it the biggest hook rating of any ball they have reviewed.

I've not received my copy, but I think charlest pointed out in another thread that the review was not from BJI, but a manufactorers rating.

I cant wait for this ball. This may finally be the heavy oil monster I have been waiting for to replace my current stuff. I tried most of the other heavy oil monsters from Track and other than the Super Freak, none of the others impressed me. Phenom was too long, Freak didnt move enough. I can never find a happy medium. Unfortunately I sold my Super Freak only to later realize it was exactly what I was looking for.

If you haven't noticed, the lanes that BTM tests the bowling balls on were changed from a wood surface to synthetics. So naturally the total hook numbers and others might be a little different compared to balls of the past. Just my observation.

Here is what I do, as far as BTM or BJI ball ratings go.....I hardly ever look at the numbers, I usually only read what they have to say about the ball. I found 5 years or so ago that the numbers they put out are pretty inaccurate. I know they have changed their system since then, but they still are not very accurate in the ratings they give balls. I mean----rating the Animal (which I have not thrown, but---just look at the core) along side of the Triple Threat? They seem like they would be 2 totally different balls.

I have thrown a Super Carbide BOMB which I believe that is the ball BTM says is the biggest hooking ball ever-----the SCB did not move nearly as much as the Phenom.

SO, take the numbers for what they are worth, NOTHING. When it comes to Track equipment, Del has not lied to us so far, so I doubt he would start now.

After some thoughts about it, I think I am interested in the Havoc as well. That does not really mean I am going to get it right away. I will probably want to see someone throw the ball first.

A couple of thoughts you may want to consider in discssing such factors:

1. BTM's conditions do not cover as wide a spectrum of oil as we see or as it should. Their DRY is Medium-light, and their OIL is Medium-heavy, as far as I can tell based on balls I have used and their ratings of such balls.

2. In general, balls intended for true heavy oil are NOT the biggest hooking balls. They are NOT hook monsters EXCEPT in that they will hook more in a heavy oil condition that balls intended to be used in less oil. Om medium oil or even medium heavy oil patterns, they will hook less than balls intended for those conditions.

So the total hook number for a ball like the Inferno, Golden Nugget or the Jungle Green should be much larger or higher than a ball like the Animal or the Mutant or the Phenom, which is intended for true heavy oil.
