Paradox (hybrid) on something other than THS?
« on: March 19, 2016, 11:27:27 AM »
Looking for videos of the Paradox being thrown on other patterns than the THS.
Like on patterns with lots of oil.
At the alley that is the club's home turf, we bowl on LOTS of oil. For me with a low rev rate and avg speed or above, it's hard to get balls to hook. Need to see how these heavy oil balls perform on heavy oil and not on THS. The pattern we play on is far from THS :P

On the info on the ball it says "Finish: 500 / 2000".
Does that mean you can order 2 versions of the ball?
Nvm, got the answer for this on Bowlers Uniting.

If anyone is as noob as me about those things
"It's the factory surface prep. It starts with 500 abralon then they hit it with 2000 abralon on the paradox"
"500 grit sanding is the underlying surface with 2000 sanded over the top finish"

You won't find to many videos that aren't done on a house shot here. All the ball staffers and most people just use the house shot. They figure then the ball will always looks good and more people will buy them. A total waste of time in my opinion .You can make 95% of the balls made look good on a dumb house shot. Now roll them on a sport/pba pattern and it's a whole different ball game !!!

I have the Paradox and it is great on the heavy oil patterns
If you want something a bit stronger, then go with the Hammer Scandal, its a good 5 boards stronger than the Paradox

I had very good luck with my Paradox on a 48 foot sport pattern for a couple of weeks.  As a slow speed stroker I keep mine at 4000 with a touch of polish.  I did not need any more surface on the long pattern.  Surface was old worn anvil lane, so the track opened up around 3rd arrow very quickly.  I followed the oil line in over the course of 4 games and got good carry playing very direct with almost an old fall back look.

As a footnote, I also have a Lock with the same layout and surface.  I did not get as good a look with the lock, primarily because it wanted to get a bit more angular  down lane. That forced me away from the pocket just enough that I couldn't use the fall back look.

The Paradox was being rolled a lot during the PWBA tournaments, youtube some of those events you should be able to see at least one person rolling with it.

I have also used the Paradox box finish on Tokyo (43ft) and that was a good test for my Paradox.  I was able to play straight for a couple games then slowly moved left and the reaction, and finish were just as strong.

I bowl in a PBA experience league and I have had success on that as well, I know these are words and you ask for video.  Saying that hopefully I was able to create a small visual of the Paradox on a non THS.

Interesting.
The Scandal hooks more than the Swerve. But for me at least, it's a bit harder to control.
The Scandal punches harder than the Swerve.
Got most strikes with the Scandal when I bowled with my dad and cousin yeasterday.
Though we might've been bowling on medium oil. And the people working there don't use the cleaning setting on the oil machine on vacation days.
On the home turf alley, we get a ton of oil on practices, a bit less on matches even though the people working at the alley claim it's the same pattern.
So I'm excited to see how I bowl on home turf now that I've gotten better. I'll probably use the Scandal the most, but the Swerve for spares.

I've also been thinking about getting the Grudge from DV8.
But now I'll hopefully get my Jackal replaced.
