Title: Phenom unleashed question
Post by: stormerjip on February 08, 2004, 07:32:26 AM
Does this ball really work well on a heavy oil shot?  Since its suppose to be a skid/flip ball for heavy oil so does it really work well in heavy oil

Hey Stormer,

The Unleashed actually has a lower particle load then the Phenom.  It does turn well in med-heavy with some dry backs but unless you have pretty good hand, I'd suggest the Phenom to the Animal perhaps based on what Excaliber's stating.  See his posting on "Animal-mini review".  By the numbers shown, 40 for dull, that's even 2 more then the Phenom but I'd double check with Excaliber.  I'm not sure why mine are late this time but I should be getting the Animal soon also.  Hope this helps bud...

If you have slower ball speed, the Unleashed could be an oil ball for you. I say "COULD" because it is still a question. With the Phenom or Animal, there is no question that either will work on oil. I have now used my Animal 12 games, and like it more and more after every game. My local city tournament was this weekend, and the ball just about paid for itself. If the bowler alongside of the ball would have used his brain a little sooner, it would have paid for itself over 3 times.

With the box surfaces...the Phenom is a better oil ball than the Animal. My next ball purchase is an Animal to take the shine off of.

My dad has slower ball speed (roughly 14mph), he does not have a ton of hand, I would say below average actually, but he is behind the ball at his release,  and his Phenom is almost unusable unless there is an absolute flood. His Unleashed is what he uses on oil. It gets length and has a 1500 polished finish it as well. If it was dulled down some he could probably use it in the heavy stuff too.

TENS---the track area dried up really fast, but I stayed with the Animal for all 6 games. In doubles I had 690 (scores were relatively low overall for the bowlers this year), but my dad and his lack of speed could not really follow my lead....we finished 13th out of 80, but that was with his 540 set. I do not think we will cash though.

Singles I had 640s. I would have bowled much better had I moved inside the track area much sooner. 244 once I made that move.
