Phoenix owners. Question...

Have you thrown it with any kind of surface on it?  Like mine has been at 4000, 2000, and 1000.  Other than 4000 w/polish, my Phoenix just doesn't seem to agree with it.  Anyone else with this issue, or is it just me?

The Phoenix was very sensative to surface adjustments.......you can try it at 1000 but put a polish over top of that grit. If it is still not what you are looking for (if you decide you want a sooner reaction) take it even lower, say 500 abralon and put polish over top it.

The Phoenix will roll....the polish helps it start on the backend and continue through the pins.

Yeah.  I'm going to do that before next thursday.  If I continue to have issues, getting rid of it may be an option.  Kinda bugs me I've not been able to do jack with it since I shot 780 with it.

took the polish off mine with a green scotchbrite with light pressure and clean and dull, handles more oil for me with a more arc reaction than the hard backend i was getting in box, think im gonna go back to box though, it just doesnt drive through the pins like it used to

Confusion city here.  I'm being told differently.  I'm told that no matter what I sand a ball to (4000,2000,1000,500) that if I put polish on top of it, it nullifies whatever grit it was at.  I didn't think that was true.  Didn't make sense to me.

The grit underneath polish is extremely important. Imagine this.....if you sand a ball with 4000 grit abralon then polish over top of that. Next you take a ball sanded with 500 grit abralon and then apply polish over that surface. The 4000grit will go much much longer whereas the 500grit will tend to roll a little sooner, but with the polish the 500 will still retain energy long enough to backend a bit.

Make sense?

Hey X,

Haven't tried adjusting the surface on mine(yet) but my Tag Team partner is correct in describing underlying grits to a finish of a ball.

Polish does "not" nullify the underlying grit.  The rougher the underlying grit is to the surface finish of a ball, the more it will still grab compared to a smoother grit.  Hope this helps explain some...

Minor modification to Rick's statement, if I might:

'Polish does "not" nullify the underlying grit' as long as the polish you use is one with no abrasive in it like Track's Magic Shine(, or Legends Factory Finish polish or Brunswick's High Gloss polish). If you polishes with abrasives in it like Storm's Xtra Shine, it will affect and change the underlying resin's sanded base coat.

I assume, in this case, everyone is using Track's Magic Shine. Then you're safe.

Thank you Charlest, good point.  However, how much do you feel that a "grit" polish" can alter a 220 underlying finish vs a 1200 finish before application of a grit polish?  The very rough underlying grit I've seen still holds a fair amount of it's original property because is much rougher to begin with.  Are you referring to the smoother finishes and then applying "grit" polish over that?

Well, I haven't used magic shine in a very long time.  I actually did not like it, and have gone to ebonite's cleaning/polishing products.  Like with my Power Machine,  I'll first use PH ball cleaner.  Then I'll use PH Particle Polish, and then finish off with PH energizer cleaner to get rid of any residue.

I just got done using some PH factory polish on My Phoenix.  I won't use it until Thursday, so we'll see what happens.

ebonite doesnt make a cleaner that even compares to Clean and Dull, not sure about polishes, hell noone makes a cleaner that compares to Clean and Dull

I did polish up the Phoenix, and decided to go pot bowling with it.  To add more pressure on myself, I used that and my Equation.  I tweaked a couple of things out, and it worked well for me.  We bowled 15 games.  Not only did I not get worn out, but I shot very well throughout the night.  My confidence in the Phoenix is renewed, and the Equation rolls very nicely.  Not as nice as my PM, but good enough to net me some cash for the night.

Can someone tell me what the original box finish is on the Phoenix. I know what the box says but what the hell is TCS. I have a couple of balls with 4000 abralon on them but the Phoenix looks like it has some polish on it.
