Differences between Power Machine and Equation
« on: May 26, 2007, 04:26:45 AM »
I want to utilize a 3 ball arsenal this summer with the Mean Machine, Power Machine and Equation. These are the drills on each:

Mean Machine

Power Machine
http://www.putfile.com/pic.php?img=5537037

Equation
http://www.putfile.com/pic.php?img=5537038

My confusion comes when its time to use the PM or Eq. According to the BTM charts, the PM has a length of 15, and backend of 16, while the Eq is 14 and 16, repectively. On some conditons, my PM goes longer than the Eq. For those who have these two, which goes first, and do you have to play these balls differently as far what lines to play to get the best out of them?

HEY BUCK!

Your Power Machine has almost the same identical layout mine had...and the way you are describing your ordeal...comes down to the same problems I had...it seemed like my Equation was doing more work than my PM...in conclusion, which is why I still have my Equation and not my PM anymore...

I would just use your Equation when the Meanie becomes too much and when the Equation seems unpredictable...pull the Power out and use that one...the Power for me with that layout had its backend pop but it was very squirty sometimes...hope this helps! God Bless You and have a great week!

Buck,

With the layout you chose on the Equation it should rev sooner than the Power Machine but you should still see the Power Machine having more moving in the backend of the lane.

I would probably say that the Equation should be a benchmark type ball with that layout.....and when it checks too soon or does not give you the room to the outside that it should then you would change to the Power.

For the drillsets I have on those three.  My EQ goes the longest, but has the weakest backend.  I use this ball when I need to play the middle of the lane.  My PM continues to be my benchmark ball for the length, and surprisingly violent backend.  I'll use the MM if I sense more oil than usual-or I just feel like having fun.

My MM is pin at 1:30 from ring at 4-1/4 from PAP @ 1000 abralon.
PM is pin under at 4 to PAP @ 2000 abralon.
EQ is 4-1/4 from PAP in ring OOB. I see a distinct difference in the three.

Hey Buck, (How are you buddy?)

The main difference between the two balls should be the oil handling capability with the PM being a little stronger and more backend like Carl states. The PM is much stronger for me compared to the Equation overall.  I tend to use the EQ when the shots break down but then again I am on the west coast (many synthetic houses with decent oil). Hope this helps some.....

May the Equation bring you more luck than it did me.  That things a paperweight now.

I looked at the picture of your Equation. Why did you drill it so weak?

Because with the exeption of the Phoenix, everything else has either short length, or a violent backend....sometimes extremely violent.  I wanted something that I can play a tighter line with, and hit the pocket just as hard with, without the angle.

For some that spin the ball, on Xcessive's Equation, could be considered a very aggressive pattern. For me, layouts like that really help me get through the thickest of carry down, and don't burn up as soon as some RH standard drills do. I have basically the same look on my Paradigm, with Pin over middle finger, and RAD+ next to thumb. Creates alot of midlane roll, and gets through the thickest of carrydown. I love layouts like that.

I think I kinda blew it out of proportion when I said that about the EQ.  I think It's just because I love my Power Machine.  I did put 2000 on it afterwards vice the 4000+polish I initially had on it.  I'll give it a go next week.
