crap, crack on my animal

noticed a hairline crack around the ring finger hole.  it's kind of going around the top of the bridge area, heading for middle finger hole.  i use finger inserts, am i screwed (as in terms of warranty)?

i got the ball last year around february.  man, not even 100 games on that ball (not enough oil).  DAMMIT!

last year february as in february 2005?

Its worth a shot talking to someone in track, They usually don't care too much about inserts. I've thrown cracked balls in the past and really found no difference in performance...

Talk to the pro shop you bought it from if it is within the warranty period....if not, maybe try calling Track to see if they can do anything if your pro shop can't.

yeah, from 2004.  feb 2005 would still count as 'this' year right?

i talked to the proshop, they didn't think they could do anything because of the inserts.  how long is the warranty for balls anyways?  i'm just slightly over 1 yr period.

the ball has been plugged once because i didn't like my first drill (after like 3 games).  changed the MB location to VAL (i'm not sure if you guys remember or not).  but the crack's not around the plug area.  actually, now that i think about it, probably has less than 75 games.  really really low miles on this one.  am i sol?

I haven't had any problems with my Animals (working on # 3) but have had a problem with my Rule. The warranty period is 1 year, and Track requests that you return the ball through the shop. I think it's worth asking your shop to send the ball back to Track with the purchase information to see what they will say.

I wouldn't hold my breath on having the ball replaced.  Ordinarily what needs to be done is you give the ball to the shop you got it from..they in turn send it back to the distributor they got it from..the distributor in turn sends it to the manufacturer for inspection, if the manufacturer decides to replace the ball the process reverses with a new ball coming back to you through the channels I mentioned.  Where you may have a problem is you have three strikes against you..1.) you are past the year warranty period 2.)The ball had grips which "technically" voids the warranty and 3.) the ball has been plugged. I have seen in the past where grips have been overlooked as well as warranty date in replacing a ball but I think the fact is has been plugged along with the other things will be your biggest problem.  In this case you are probably best to try and contact Track yourself as I really don't think it will be replaced using the normal channels.

I wouldn't worry about the hairline crack.  I've seen many balls (various manufacturers) that this happens to and have lasted, plus your warranty is up and it's plugged.  If anything, take it in the shop and maybe have your driller hit the finger hole with the bevel sander and try to round it a little more.  

I wish I could show you guys the material that's being used to create our lower rg balls these days.  It's really, really light.  If you ever get a chance, tell your shop guy to save a piece from a bridge that cracks out and you can see what I'm talking about.

I think brian pursel posted it earlier in the other companies forum, but what clint is saying is very true.

To create that heavy low Rg core they need to use a very light fill material. the stuff sands out like saw dust or grain almost. good reason to use slugs for thumbs especially. Also this lighter material is less durable so it falling apart when pulling out inserts is not uncommon.

All you have to do is grab a piece of that liquid foam. It seems to be about the same weight and density as that stuff, it really is very light!
