Picking up my Phenom Unleashed tomorrow...
« on: December 15, 2003, 08:14:24 AM »
Ok, just had a question for the folks here, this is the first high performance ball I have bought. I currently have a Columbia Scout Reactive and a Columbia Wicked. Basically what I want to know is what people think of this ball, I'm a little nervous since it is the first high performance ball I am getting and I am hoping it is going to be good. Opinions on this ball welcomed.

No need to be nervous David, this is a very good med to med heavy oil ball with a ton of backend.  With some decent head oil to work with, the Unleashed will rev up, go long and turn over hard on the backend.  This is the only part you would want to discuss in some detail with your ball driller.  Be sure to place the pin and mass bias in the position necessary for the reaction that you want.  Hope this was helpful...no need to worry...GREAT choice!!

Dave,
Our anchor just picked this ball up.....it's marketed for heavy oil, but I think you could use it in medium heavy as well,....medium, maybe, as long as there is enough head oil left like Rick said.

This ball goes long and rolls up w/ a nice hard arc and just crushes the rack!!
The messengers are actually funny to watch !!  Plus, our anchor doesn't have that much hand,...very nice ball!  I'm no Track fan (not against them either) but this ball is impressive!

DavidKSNK - I have seen this ball in action with Rick throwing it.  He is the anchor man on our team.  The ball does what it you tell it to do.  With as strong as these cores and coverstocks are you really want to be sure that your ball driller gets to see you throw a few and gets to measure your PAP and lay this ball out correctly.  To strong a drilling or too weak and you won't be happy with it.

All right picked up the ball yesterday.

"Wow!" is all I can say.

This ball was drilled to be incredible agressive and when on the right line it just mauls the pins like nothing else.

It really needs oil to show off what it can do, but it requires a lot of accuracy. I bowled on medium oil conditions last night with it and I had to adjust my release to avoid flicking my fingers upward otherwise it will hook right past the headpin.

Bowled 13 games before in practice with a 185 average for the session. The lanes were drier, so I had to rev the ball up myself as opposed to last night. But once the ball goes down it streaks towards the pins and has a snap of a breakpoint to it and just drives completely through. I rarely left more than 2 pins standing when I didn't get the strike. But I am very happy with this ball. An excellent purchase and the Columbia Wicked ball complements it well for those 10 pin spares. Had an average of 2 open frames per game for the session and it was mostly because of splits that I could have avoided by slowing my tempo down a little bit.

Big thumbs up to Track for such an amazing ball.
