PLEASE HELP ME BUILD AN ARSENAL TO BOWL REGIONALS
« on: June 25, 2005, 03:40:30 PM »
So i want to build an arsenal to bowl four south region pba tournaments on august and i guess i ll go with track because the heat2 is the best ball i have ever thrown
can you guys please suggest me an arsenal? is there any ball on the new line that could give a similar look to the heat2?
thanks a lot
p.d: i throw pretty mad revs with a 17 mph speed..but hopefully i am ver verstile and i can be a power stroker also and throw a ball a little bit harder

I like D Pat's suggestions.

Despite what anyone says on any forum, there is nothing better for heavy oil than the Rule GP2. This is particularly true for someone with higher revs because the GP2 will give more recovery down the lane than any other high load particle ball on the market.

jonah,

With your high revs and med speed, the Xception 5.0 will cover most of the heavier patterns, but when it doesn't turn over the GP2 will. The Slash is a perfect ball for a benchmark ball. I would drill it to give you a smooth arc, something that will be easy to adjust your line off of for other equipment.

Like chitown said, controlling the breakpoint is essential...that being said, generally symmetric balls will work rather well.  This is not to say that asymmetricals don't have their place, but as a general rule of thumb, I like to use the symmetricals to control breakpoints.  Balls in the Arsenal series (along with the Freak-A-Zoid) and the Heat series would be good, and if you can find a Threat, grab that too, very nice and even particle pearl.

On asymmetricals though, swinging the MB out would be beneficial to help control the breakpoint.  I.E. An Xception with the pin above ring and MB swung out a bit would help get the ball through the heads, more or less ignore the midlane, and make a nice smooth arc on the backend.

Heavy/medium-heavy: Rule GP2 (particle, asymmetric) or Arsenal Aggressive (particle, symmetric)
Medium-heavy/medium: Xception 5.0 (particle pearl, asymmetric) or Blue Heat (particle, symmetric)
Medium: Rule (reactive, asymmetric) or Arsenal Angular (particle pearl, symmetric)
Medium-light: Xception (reactive pearl, asymmetric) or Heat (reactive pearl, symmetric)
Light: Desert Heat (reactive pearl, symmetric)

Those are some basic suggestions...feel free to swap in and out as you wish!  Other great balls include the Threat (particle pearl, symmetric), Crash (reactive pearl, symmetric), Freak-A-Zoid (reactive, symmetric), Freak (particle, assymetric), etc.

Heavy - GP2
Med heavy - Aggressive
Med/Med - Xception 5.0
Med to med lite - Slash
Med dry - Heat
Dry - Desert Heat

I also agree with Loose about the controlled reaction off the breakpoint.  With your speed and revs, I'd definitely recommend weaker layouts.

Closest ball I can think of to the Heat2 is a Slash polished.  Hope this helps some...

Jonah with your speed and rotation I would stay away from the GP2 for regionals or the 5.0. They are a little to strong for power players on the senior patterns we are bowling on now. I just regained the point lead in the Southwest region and I have had a lot of success with the Aggressive and angular.

Last week on Pattern #3 I average 225 in qualifying on Saturday and Sunday morning. I was 20 under after 3 games when I switched to an Aggressive drilled 6 by 4 pin above middle finger with an one inch hole at 4 inches. It was shined with magic shine and lightly scuffed by hand with schotch brite. I shot 243, 268, 289 for 800 and then followed it with 300. The ball didn't work well until I put the large hole to bring the breakpoint to me and smooth the reaction out.

This weekend on Pattern #1 I used an angular most of the tournament and finished 3rd. It is drilled 4 1/2 by 2 1/2 pin under ring finger 15/16 hole at 4". This ball is clean through the heads reads the middles well and is smooth on the backend. It blends out the over-under and doesn't wiggle on the carrydown. I swung the cg 2 1/2 inches to the axis to make it very smooth off of the transition and be consistent.

If you like the Heat 2 ,which I threw the last four games Saturday, the Sheer Havoc is the same core with a light load particle shell. It is very close but is a little earlier and smoother.  The Blue Heat is simular to the Sheer Havoc and Heat 2 but has more Diff so it starts earlier with more overall hook.

If I had to drill a arsenal to bowl regionals I would drill

Heavy:          Aggesive or Blue Heat
Medium heavy:   Rule, Slash, or Sheer Havoc
Meduim:         Angular or Heat
Light:          Dry Heat or Desert Heat

mitch thanks a lot for your answer..first of all i apologize in advance for my english,i am from argentina and i will be bowling on senior pattern 4,5 and 1
so i will be carrying my heat 2,my cuda2000(benchmark ball),and my power groove dry/r and so after hearin of what u are telling me i am thinking on an arsenal agressive, and angular and i dont know if a sheer havoc or a slash,so the gp2 its out of the list?...which differences should i expect of these balls?
i was thinking on a polished slash to get a similar reaction of my heat2.
for what i read pattern 4 is very difficult you got a flat pattern between the 30 and 40 feet.
i am used to bowl on sport and shcity conditions here in argentina...and everytime i bowl on house shots on united states (florida) i average close to the 240´....this will be my first experience on the pba tour althoug i ve got a lot of experience on interantional topurnamets...please suggset me which options wopuld u take on 3 balls and how would u layout them
thanks a lot jonah300

DPat, you were SO FAR OFF, just like you were so far off in predicting when my 5.0s would come in. You should be a weatherman
