Hi Everyone, looking to Revamp the arsenal and I'm looking at Track & Columbia stuff, but I am open to all brands to fill my current Arsenal Gaps. Most of the Medium balls I'm looking at have differentials between (.47 and .35 I think).(Thanks to ballselector.com) Dang that website kept me busy for a Memorial Day Evening.

Heavy Oil (Early Roll) = GP2 With MB just left of VAL (Already Have)
Medium Heavy (Strong Arc) = Animal (Polished with Clean N' Polish) with MB just left of VAL (Already Have)
Most Mediums (Arc - Strong Arc) = Alter Ego or Arsenal Angular or Sheer Havoc or Triple Threat or Backyard Bully with MB in Strong Position (4.5 x 4?)
Most Mediums (Smooth Roll to combat Clean Backends) = Slash or Detour (4 x 3.75?)
Most Light Conditions (Arc) = Heat, Crash, or Columbia Panic (5X5?) (With some Magic Shine maybe)

Just trying to create some separation here...anything you recommend for me in any of these spots?
I'm open to all suggestions to Layouts & Coverstock Preparation. Thanks everyone!

GULP...I know I may get some flack for this, but I like the stats on the Exception 5.0 Maybe It could replace my Animal? I could still basically find some use for the Animal if I do get a 5.0. (Like in league) I've heard so many good things about it that it's driving me nuts! What do you guys think?

I have to agree with the Slash over the detour.....the slash is going to give you that smooth roll much better than a detour.


As for your most mediums (arc- strong arc) category: I would go with the Alter Ego, Angular or Sheer Havoc. All 3 of those can cover that reaction. You mention MB placement, but the only one of the balls that you have listed that has a marked MB is the Alter Ego. For the Alter Ego to cover mediums you are probably going to have to adjust the surface a bit. With the layout you mentioned the Alter Ego can be pretty strong.
The Angular would be a better fit for the medium conditions. The 4 inch from PAP pin position will help it have a nice arc, but keep the pin low because if you with a higher pin position it can become a very "snappy" ball.

For the light conditions: Stay away from the Crash. The Crash can be a pretty aggressive ball if it hits dry soon enough. Polish will help, but it will not help that much. The Heat or Panic would be best. With the Heat, you would have to apply delayed reaction. I suggest that over the magic shine because magic shine tends to make a ball jump very strongly off of dry boards.

Hey Ram,,

I think you can replace the Animal with the 5.0, it'll give you more room to the right.  With your hand and type of game, it'll help you open up the shot much easier.  The Animal will fit better for the spotty or tougher shots.

Under the 5.0, now we can go with a Sheer, think I still have a 15 in the shop.

For smooth and controlled, the Slash fits that nicely and for lite dry, I like the Panic or Scout/R in there.  

I drove all the way to Fremont last nite just to throw the 5.0 on a different condition to get a better feel of what it can do before I write my review.  It's a very smooth but strong ball, pretty impressive.
