Power Machine reaction...
« on: October 10, 2006, 06:31:42 PM »
Hey guys,

Just a quick note about the Power Machine.  Drilled 3.75x4.25mb with the pin 3 above mid line.  After using Carl as my guinea pig, I decided to go with this layout to help control some of the ball's natural strength.

This ball does need a little head oil to help clear.  Even at the 3000 finish, it is fairly aggressive in med/med oil.  If it sniffs any kind of dry, it puts on the brakes and makes a left turn with non-stop driving power thru the pins.  Very nice...we haven't had something with this look in a little while.

It is pretty angular compared to the other pieces in our current line up.  I agree with Carl in the description of it being a cross between our Mean and Equation.

FWIW, punched it up and went out to league with it.  A few shadow balls and went 214, 278 and 183.....not bad considering I had no clue what this ball would look like on my conditions.  Sold 3 tonite and they're not even out yet...see guys, when I strike, it has to be the ball...

Pic and vids coming soon....

On edit: fellow staffers/drillers, be careful when removing side weight from this ball.  There isn't much density from shell to filler...I had to use a 1 1/8 bit 2 3/4 deep to bring 2 1/8 side back under an ounce.

Am I reading a post from 'Rick da Ruler'?

Hey, good to see you post.  Hope all is well  Gonna go hit the lanes and try the 3 step (since the 1 step works so beautifully )  Figure if I don't correctly throw the ball, at least I can look forward to throwing a 'stone' ...

I'll holler at you when I get back.

BTW, I haven't talked to 'ball-of-the-month' lately.  Think I'm gonna try the Power Machine.  ... hehhehehheheheheh

Tremendous ball reaction throughout the entire lane isn't it tag team partner?

Guys/gals, you are going to love this one!!!

If you passed on the Strike Machine--------------you did the right thing....this ball sounds like what people wanted out of that ball...but didn't get it!

Carl, I'm not quite sure what you mean by this. I did purchase a Strike Machine, but am also debating picking up a Power Machine as well. In fact, I also would like to get my hands on a Mean Machine so I have all 4 Machines.

What exactly were people expecting out of the Strike Machine that they didn't get?

good length, great midlane, good backend movement. Very strong rolling ball, see it as an artillery on roids, with added pop on the backend.

yea, lately i can't ANYTHING down the lane here, i had an old crunch time that was given to me that was plugged and threw it on there, rolled well. Cg is almost drilled out by the ring finger, both holes are as deep as they the press would go, the hole on top is probably like 3 in needed to get out 5/8 finger.

Rick

I purchased a Strike Machine. Any idea how this ball compares. The Strike Machine for me goes longer than my Machine and has more of a tendency to skid on the carrydown. If there is any backend it finishes strong.

Kong, I tried to answer this the best I could to garyusa under Carl's post as well.  It depends on the amount of oil concentration or density you personally have.  The more we can get a ball to skid and store energy thru the front, the better the backend reaction will be.  At times, the Strike and Power may look similar but if the density isn't quite as thick, the Strike should roll a little sooner and have less backend in comparison.  This is why the Power can actually outhook the Mean on the backend and my videos do show that.

Is it due to the new 3000 grit process that helps it gain traction on the backend? Pearl reactives tend to skid in carrydown, in my experience.

Yes Big John, you are correct.  The 3000 grit helps the ball store more energy for the backend but any reactive will still need to hit some dry (or encounter the proper amount of friction) to turn over.  If you look at my vids closer, you will see that the Power has to get out between 5-10 before it can make a strong move back towards the pins.  When I threw one down and in, it just turned over slightly on the backend.

Hope this helps explain some guys...

KONG 69,  strike machine is a little smoother, {strong arc }  on the back end.
the power machine is more angular.
i also believe that the power machine much like the new action attack, are the first 2 balls using columbia's new tech 3000 finish.

worth having both!!!!!!!!!
