Pro Shop question: Cracking around the pin . . .
« on: December 01, 2004, 12:52:06 AM »
I have a hairline crack around the pin on my Phenom Unleashed.
Pin is below ring finger, about 3/8 of an inch...I know that is close, but is that to close? Ball fell off of the ball return, and hit that area of the ball. So far the crack hasn't widened at all. I'm lefty, was planning on giving the ball to a friend who is right-handed, will there be a problem when the ball is fully plugged. My gut instinct is: Yes.

I the proshop drills out the cracked portion before they plug it he should have no problem.

The unleashed is such a good ball why are you giving it away?

The crack goes through the pin about 1/2 inch each side. I love the ball, but it's too much ball for the conditions I see. And my friend really, really wants the ball.
I'm drilling up a Storm HR Pro Stock Pearl and Banshee today.
I also have a Lane 1 Silver Diamond, and a Columbia Trooper.

You need to make sure he owes you for it. Have you played with the surface any?

My pro shop shined after about 12 games. It was to violent on the backend, so I dulled it a bit with a green scotchbrite, which calmed the backend down. I traded it for a HR PRo Stock Pearl today that my friend had.

Hey Duke,

Have the shop include that area in the plug and it shouldn't be a problem.  I've done that to quite a few balls (various companies) and the cracking stopped.
