Female/Asymmetrical drill
« on: October 31, 2005, 04:36:58 AM »
My wife's rule cracked big time so we are in the process of replacing it with a new asymmetrical ball. She is taking a hard look at the 5.0 Xception. The old Rule was laid out with the MB to the bottom right of the thumb hole and the pin was in line with the pin which is about one o'clock above the ring finger. The thinking was at the time with slower ball speed and forward roll this was fine.
The Rule was a down and end ball and if missed right, no recover. I think the MB on the new asymmetrical should be at least in the #2 position. We would like to hear from the women Trackers and Track staffers on layouts for women and what Track Asymmetrical equipment is working for them. We know for a fact that a lot of women Trackers view this site but do not speak up, let us hear from you.
thanks,

E-mail Track and they will fix you up with one of the best female bowlers around, staff member Marrianne DiRupo, she is great to work with.

Not to mention the DIVAs have a few decent bowlers theirselves!

By placing the mass bias closer to the PAP, the ball will get into a roll quicker, but will have less backend....

Hey jody,

As D Pat quotes me, "it don't matter"...male or female is irrelevant to a layout.  It simply matches to a bowlers speed, tilt, angle of rotation, rev ratio to speed and pap.  Laying out a ball for Michelle Feldman is the same as for "any" cranker...

Depending upon her pap, with the mb just right of thumb may have been too far from pap to help the block get started and to turn over well.  I agree with your thinking, keeping the mb in the stronger position should allow her to have more recovery down lane but I highly advise to find her true pap first before laying out the ball.  If she has a high tilt for instance, even with the mb next to thumb may have been sitting 6+ inches away from pap and 6 inches is too far away to help the weight block get started.  If you can find the pap, feel free to pm me and I'll do my best to help you out bud, thanks.

Rick, are you sure you don't mean a high track?

No, I meant high tilt.  If the pap is up far enough from midline (pap could be 4-4.5 with a 1.5 up), this could push the mb too far away.  I don't consider a 4 to 4.5 track being high....

jody,

The 5.0 is going to give more recovery from the outside (as long as there is dry) than the Rule.

The male/female thing is really not important. The position you described on the Rule actually sounds like the #2 position from the drill sheet, so placing the MB in the #3 position may actually make more sense.

I hope this helps and if you have any other questions, let us know,
Carl

Thanks for all of the responses and suggestions on the Rule. We checked my wife's equipment and it is kind of funny really. She only has two balls with weight holes and they are 5" over from the center grip and to remove side weight. Most of the drills she has does not have a weight hole on the PAP. I will have to find out what it really is. I just cleaned the equipment up for leagues so will have to wait to see where rings are on the track.
thanks,
