Good replacement for a Triton Elite Pearl?
« on: January 23, 2005, 11:50:16 PM »
First let me say that the advice that I have been reading in this forum is amazing.  Thank you and well done!

I'm a stroker/tweener with medium revs with a ball speed around 15 mph.  I am currently updating my equipment and am looking for advice on a new ball to replace my old Pearl Triton Elite, which I still love by the way.  I'm looking for something that will get through the heads clean with the same length but a bit more reaction in the back end.  I am not looking for a seriously angular snap (such as the Xception) just a bit more punch as my Elite seems to be getting a bit tired.  I've noticed that the Slash has the same core but would the more aggressive coverstock make it start to roll too early?

I recently purchased an Animal Untamed to replace my Contender (my real workhorse...first out of the bag EVERYTIME).  It seems like it will be a good fit once I tweak the surface a bit.

Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated.  Thank you in advance.

I wonder if the CrunchTime isn't the only serious contender to replace the ELite Pearl, but let the experts, the Track staffers confirm that or suggest a better choice. Might need a tad more than stock polish to get closer to the EP.

Well, the Slash with an OOB surface will roll much earlier than the Elite Pearl. To get close, you could use a length drilling (control drilling) and polish it up with some Magic Shine and it could be close. However, you may want to look at the Arsenal Angular coming out in February, a pearl particle, or in March a Mid Price pearl will be coming out as well. One of these choices may be good as well.

Also, the Hexplosion has a nice roll and hits hard. ball gets down the lane NICE!

Also, whatever you may be looking at, plus any info on yourself would greatly be appreciated for us to help you better!

The Elite and the Contender both have the same weight block.  The Contender was actually a favorite of mine also.  I still have mine but it has been resurfaced close to it's limitations.  The Slash and CrunchTime are the only balls presently produced with the Elite core that I know of.  The good thing is, both balls are produced by Track just as the Elite and Contender were.  I don't own either of the later two balls so I can't give you any feedback on performance.  If the reviews posted here are not informative enough you could try contacting a Track representative.  Good luck on your decision.

Hey gwd,

I have to go with the consensus here that either the CrunchTime or a polished up Slash should give you a similar look of the old Elite Pearl.  Hope this helps some...

What about the Crash?  Or is that too skid/flip?

Wow, thanks everyone for the quick responses.  Clint - I had also wondered about the Hexplosion.  As soon as I get my specs I'll post them.

Thanks again.

I agree with Rick here gwd. Especially with the Slash selection. There is so much more oil on the lanes then when the Elite came out that you have to have a more agressive cover on it to make up for that fact. However, you could probably drill it slightly weaker than the original and get real close to the same reaction. I like to judge balls by their cores (it works for me anyways) and I would not be afraid to go for a Slash. I'll bet Rick, Ex, or Clint can come up with a drilling that would be real close once you post some info.
