recieved Tantrum
« on: June 18, 2008, 03:11:18 PM »
Today i recieved my Trantum drilled it 4 1/2 x 4 pin between the fingers high. This ball is sick off the dry very clean through the heads and hits really hard. The temper is awesome and this ball compliments it very well. Its a great stept down from the temper. My temper is drilled 4 x 4 1/2 pin down under ring finger. I hope this helps anybody who has questions if not let me know and ill answer any questions i can

Just got mine yesterday as well, but had company over last night so could not drill it. I am going to drill it tonight.  It looks like I got a pretty good pin about 3".  I cannot wait to throw it all the legion guys up at the bowling alley has been asking about it. I think these should so really good.

I got mine as well. Had 3-4 pin (cg is actually equidistant from mass bias and pin), top was around 3 and cg was in line. Absolutely perfect for what I want to do. I put lines on it last night, 4.5 pin, 70 degree drilling angle, 30 degree val angle. Came out with mass bias just right of thumb, pin above ring finger, 1.5 inch inside val. Will put holes in it today but not sure when I will get to throw it.

WOW!!! This ball is very clean throught the heads and nice smooth continous roll into the pocket.  I drilled the pin 1" above the ring finger like the suggested layout, cg about 70 degrees.  I had a 3.5 inch pin and 2.5 top weight.  I threw the Kinetic first and then threw the Tantrum.  The tantrum went longer and smoother off the breakpoint, but it would come back from anywhere.  HIGHLY recommend this ball for a medium lane ball.

How would this compare to an Equation everything being equal???? drill, OOB, etc.

Should be a pinch earlier than the Eq.  Keep in mind...we're dealing with 1000 & polish.

Tantrum is also slightly lower rg at 2.46 versus 2.48 so it should read the midlane a little earlier. Not positive on the OOB for the Equation, don't think it was 1000 though.

Wasn't even close to 1000.  I've redone one of my Eq's with worn 4000 and that's as close to oob as it's ever been.  Hoping that this ball will replace the Equation.  I'll just need to get a little creative with layout and futz with the cover a tad.

Per the retired balls section on the track website, it was 3000. they used sandpaper to finish the balls so i think 2000 abralon would be as close to the finish as you could get.

With the numbers being that close, I doubt the average bowler will notice a difference of the RG between 2.46 and 2.48

I think the difference between 2.46 and 2.48 is significant enough to notice. I have watched the "average bowler" use both the Kinetic and Temper and they can certainly tell the difference in how the read the midlane.

Sure there is a difference between the Kinetic and Temper because both balls don't share the same cover.

Agreed, this is one tremendous piece.
I laid mine out 70x4.5x30 using dual angle layout. Basically, pin is up above ring finger, mass bias just ring of thumb, pin 1.5 inches inside val. Was hoping to use a fairly strong pin distance (4.5) but still get it to respond quick to friction. This ball compliments the Temper perfectly. I practiced on a pair that had one lane hooking about 5 boards more than the other so I got to see what look I would have on fresh and also after they break down. On the fresh, I was able to stay a little up the back of it, got effortless length, read the midlane just right and made a strong controlled move. It didn't want to jerk off the dry when I missed right and didn't want to skid 60 feet if I missed in. Pin carry was the best I have seen with any of the releases.
On the drier lane, I had to chase it a few boards inside the oil line and soften my hand up and go around it a little more but got the same great midlane read. The only problem was getting it right early as it wanted to read a little too quick. As with any ball with a 2.46 rg, you are going to need some oil up front so I was ok with this. Still had insane pin carry from deeper angles.
This will be a great ball for THS and I think this will have a place on lighter volumes in regionals during the transitions games. I feel like I won't be forced deep too quick. The Temper is my go to ball on the fresh but this will be a great ball to go to after they start to carry down and burn up front.
