Ball for medium-dry THS pattern?
« on: February 06, 2011, 12:48:38 PM »

I am looking for a ball for my daughter for when the pattern gets toasted after several games bowled. She is a lower rev bowler, avg speed 14-15mph, and typically shoots from the 17 to 10 on the THS. I am hoping to find her something that can handle the medium-dry patterns. She currently uses a 15lb Pure Swing as her got to ball and follows that with her 15lb VG, but both of these balls burn a lot of energy on the drier patterns that she has experienced. Any advice??

Tropical Storm,  Storm Tropical Heat, Columbia Freeze, Brunswick Slingshot, Hammer Midnight Vibe, the list is very long. That is a short start.

Be good, or be good at it.
…… you can't  add a physics term to a bowling term and expect it to mean something.

Well what you have listed above is a good start in some cases! I know the Freeze, Slingshot, and the Vibe are all to aggressive for these patterns, but I haver thought about the Tropical line. I have been told that the Tropical Storm could be a great bet but I worried about the pearl causing snap. The Tropical Heat Hybrid could be a good way to go but I would like to know if it works well with the dry conditions and also short sport shots!

Just an observation here, your daughter has a pure swing and a virtual gravity, two heavy oil balls. I would suggest either a 300 C, or a Midnight Vibe as a step down.depending on the reaction you prefer.( The 300C will be a smoother transition , while the Vibe will be more angular) Beyond that you could consider  one of the urethanes as a step down from there ( Grenade, Natural, Pearl Natural) The pearl Natural won't be as angular due to it's matte surface. I hope this helps.

Personally, I think you looking for something to handle medium-dry is to big a range to have one ball try to handle. A medium shot could be medium in length but not in volume. Or long in length and not so much volume. Dry is dry and with enough surface, hand, or slow enough ball speed anything can and will hook on dry. I would say look into picking up 2 bowling balls. One for med, and another for the dry. A lot of the balls stated will work well on med and some better for the dry. If she doesnt have alot of hand but is still throwing the ball 14-15 mph, dont be scared to look into something like a vibe or freeze or even a 607A or burst, or from outside ebonite international, a victory road or python. I have sold alot of 607As to some older guys in my area who bowl on old wood lanes who throw the ball 14-15mph with slightly below ave rev rate who play it up 10 all day every day and score just fine.

Yet to ask one ball to cover medium oil to dry lanes is just to hard to pull off. What ever ball you get, would end up shinning better on one of he conditions then the other and that will lead to miss use of a ball due to a lack in confidence on one of those conditions.
