Resurface steps for an xception, help needed.
« on: September 20, 2006, 05:56:36 PM »
What steps do I take to get the ball to OOB after a resurface?

Just curious, are these the same steps one would use for a PP ex? If not, what are the steps for that?

Nope, AFAIHL, the Xception is a compound finish; the Solution PP Ex is a high gloss polish.

My suggestions:
Xception: sand to 800 or so then apply Clean and Sheen (with a spinner).

Solution: sand to 800 to 1000 grit and apply Magic Shine (witha spinner).

For the 800-1000 grit, should I use paper or abralon?

Does'nt matter 800 grit is 800 grit. However the abralon will reduce the sanding lines and be easier to use as well. You could also use a grey scotchbrite pad. I rarely use paper.

Also, the Xception is compound finish, but it also has magic shine polish on top OOB. Like charlest said...take the cover down to 800 than apply the clean n sheen with decent pressure on a spinner. Spray the ball down with water and wipe with a microfiber towel, then apply a medium coat of magic shine. You should end up very close to OOB.

I just requested a list of surface grits on particular balls. On the Xception Del said that the surface grit under the compound is 2000.

How is that possible? I thought the Clean n sheen compound finishes around 1500. That would mean the compound would take the surface down a little then..right?

It isn't really taking the grit down...it is adding compound on top of the grit.

Great work, Carl.
Actually I took that from something you wrote a little while back.
The Base coat of the SOlution PP Ex was just a ball park guess.

Can you post a list of balls, base sand and top coat (Clean and Sheen or Magic Shine) of what Del gave you??
