Suggestions for my next Track Ball

Hi everyone,
Need some suggestions for next season. I currently throw a 15 lbs Rule drilled pin 3 1/2" from PAP and 3" above midline, MB 5" from PAP w/ a balance hole 6" horizontal. My PAP is 5"-> and 1/8 up. I play pretty straight up. Usually outside of second arrow. I really like the ball, and Rick has helped me a good deal with technique when I bought the ball. At the start of the year my average was dropping to 170's. Finished the season w/ 195 avg. So now my question: My Rule has some problems with carry occasionally, and also really does not like carrydown. It will get to the pocket but just will not get much pin action. So...What should I look at to add to my Rule? and is the lack of pin action the ball or me?

Also Rick the seminar that you are trying to set up in Chicago area is it for public or pro-shop's?

The choice has to be

The Xception.....

Could be Rule is burning out.....so a move to the Xception and watch the pins fly!

How would the Aggressive work and maybe polish the Rule if they are too close in reaction?

This sounds like a viable plan to me.  If it's carry down or dirty backends that are the problem and not that the Rule is burning up early, the Aggressive should cut through that better.

But it also puts me in mind of another plan.  You could polish up the Rule to determine if it was burning up or not without puting out the cash for a new ball before you know what you need.

Polished Rule = Box Condition Exception...lol...

Seems like the Rule is working until the shot is breaking down?? So would think the perfect compliment to that is an Xception. To get the little bit more length and still have the hitting power.  That since that is why the Xception was made..to compliment the Rule when it was too much.

it is very difficult to determine if it is you are the ball without actually seeing what is going on. As mentioned, it could be burn up. I do disagree about polishing the Rule being the Xception. The coverstocks are totally different.

What is currently in your arsenal? That may help with a suggestion. List what is currently in your arsenal and what that ball does when the Rule starts acting up for you.

Hey MC,

I'm with my tag team partner here.  There are a couple of different things that could be happening that's causing you to lose carry.  1) Either the ball can be rolling a little early and causing it to lose energy too soon (roll-out or burn out) or 2) the dry area on the backend has actually carried down and now the ball cannot create the friction needed to turn over and carry like the earlier shots.

Fix for #1 - Xception, a harder surface will skid a little further and retain more energy on the backend to help carry again.

Fix for #2 - Arsenal Aggressive, a stronger coverstock will allow you to eat thru the carrydown and drive thru the pins like the Rule did earlier on the clean backends.

Also agreed and explained even by Brian Pursel (I believe) that a polished Rule does not = the Xception.  They are 2 completely different balls that do not hold the same properties.  Personally, I wouldn't recommend polishing the Rule if it works well.  We just need to figure out which of the two situations you're actually encountering to find the proper solution.

Congrats on the 20 pin bump in average.  We'll get to that deuce soon buddy.

I need to get some feedback on how many are interested for a Chicago seminar and what would be the major consensus in wants, most likely open to the public.  I'll post something soon asking your guys wants.

Meanwhile, the Rule got you to where you are. I sdtrongly suggest you do NOT change it. Find out what the change is that does not allow the Rule to continue to carry. If it's carrydown, then a stronger surfaced ball will help. But also, learn to follow the oil line or change ball delivery speeds; conditions change and you can't always change balls for every minor condition change.

Guys,
Yes the Rule does work until I get some carrydown. When that happens I can still get the ball to the pocket but I lack carry. I also have a Visionary Charcoal Exectioner, which it will go a little longer but the carry seems to lack with it at the same time it does for the Rule. Overall the Executioner is a few boards weaker than the Rule. I am not comfortable in moving into the middle, I do not have a lot of revs. Thanks for the info so far. I have been back into bowling for 2 years and wanting to learn as much as possible. Looking forward to getting more info from you Rick on the seminar.
