Inertia layout....give me your ideas
« on: August 21, 2006, 07:29:38 PM »
Hey Legion Members,

I want some ideas on how to drill my Inertia.  Got it today but was too busy at the shop so I'm drilling it tomorrow for league.  I had most of my stuff set up to read mids but on the drier mid lane shots (remember the old thread with DW?), I have trouble getting the ball downlane due to my slower ball speed.  Want to try something longer and just let the backends take.

(My PAP is 5 over 3/4 up) I was thinking about a 3 x 5.5mb or maybe a layout that Del gave someone out here 6 x 2.5 mb.  It's a one inch pin but my span is short (4 1/8 and 4 1/4) so I can still manipulate it some....give me your thoughts guys, thanks!

I've had a few balls drilled 5" or 5.5" x 3-3.5 MB...most recent one was a vertigo...and even with its strong reactive cover it still cleared the heads with the greatest of ease...but when it reached the end of the pattern it turned the corner real nice...

hearing the inital reports from the inertia id go with something like that...6" may go a little to long...i would take advantage of the power this ball could potentially have and go 5 x 3.5 and just adjust the pin above your midline ht. as needed

hope i helped a little!

You want a layout from me?!? Ok, here goes. If I were to drill something to get downlane and let the backends take over, I'd probably opt to put the pin right of ring, mb left of thumb. I had an Xception 5.0 drilled like that and the ball got down the lane very well and had a nice strong move on the backend. Mind you, I have slower ball speed as well. I am usually around 15 mph. Hope this helps. Maybe there's a 300 in that layout for you!!

How about 5.5 x 3 pin up 3.25-3.5
That is basically how I have my Unleashed and when the condition is right it skid/flips with the best of them.

Edit:
Just noticed that it is a 1" pin so my suggestion won't work very well unless the top weight is low enough to remove finger weight by drilling deeper
or you don't mind a high balance hole.

Well I have an idea for you! 5x135* pin high! The pin is 4 inches above midline (forward roll at the break) with the pin being 5" over it will give you length to about 35' and start its transition to forward roll (backends takeing over) The 135* weight block angle will give you limited flare through the front. I have 2 balls laid out like this, vendetta particle pearl, pin above my ring & 4" above my midline, cg in a 135* angle witch ended up slightyl left of my middle finger and above it. i believe it was a 1-1/2-2" pin. This ball is money on light oil and burnt up heads. The next ball is a old messnger Ti cherry, laid out the same way and was the test ball for this layout, This ball made me alot of money the first week I drilled it and was quite suprised at the easy length I got with it on blown open heads and touchy mids. It is about 2 boards weeker than the VPP but still hits very good. Its laid out the same but has a weight hole on the negative side in a 10' oclock position 6" over. I have a high rev rate and semi high track and do not hit the weight hole. The static weights will be something for you to decide on, the messenger has a 1/2 finger and zero side with 1000 abralon and ruff buffed to shiny it is a little bit more sudden when transitioning from skid to roll, The VPP has 0 finger 1/4 negative side (I drilled the ring finger deeper than the ring but both are drilled deep and this changed the shape of the core by makeing it shorter thus the smoother reaction I believe plus the cover wich is at burgundy scotch brite with ruff buff. It is smooth as silk but strong and works really well at the first sign of burning heads or mids. This a nice 1 2 punch on light oil and dry lanes. You also may want to try this on a older ball first and see what you think, I was skepticle at first but I love it now. I say try it and see what you think you may be suprised and it is not as shot specific as you would think, if there are clean back ends it will work good on that also even though there might be medium oil up front, The balls just ignore the front part of the lane regardless of what is out there.

P.S On a side note I did try this on a higher rg ball (roto grip saturn) and didnt like it a whole lot, it had a great move and length was good but just didnt like the lope through the front. I know it might not be a big deal to some people but I just dont preffer lopey stuff through the front.

Rick,

I see it is polished and uses a mass bias core. I see the coverstock and RG and RG DIff. but I have not seen the MB strength.

If you need more length, the obvious/standard is 4 3/4" pin-PAP, above the ring finger/bridge area, with MB: 5 " - 5 3/4" from PAP, depending on how strong the MB is and how much backend you need/want.

With your slower speed and 3/4" up factor of your PAP and the aggressive shell you probably don't want the pin below the bridge, but that's just a guess.

Hey Rick,

If you've ever drilled anything Pin Below the Ring Finger, how has that worked out for you? Hope this helps dude! God Bless You and have a great week!

Hey Prez,

You and I both know we are about the same in regards to speed (I'm probably a pinch faster.) Our PAP's are pretty close, except that my track migrates closer to my thumb than yours.

I like your 3 x 5.5mb layout idea. Or something to the effect of a Pin up over the ring finger or up and to the right of the ring finger with the MB under the thumb or just into your track area. This should probably get your ball some good length and with a MB passed the 90* degree or at the 90* position, the backends should do the rest of the work without having to worry about a "flippy backend motion."

I guess pretty much a modified Label layout or you can go Pin over Bridge with MB sitting 90* directly under the thumb. You'll get good length with the pin about 5" from PAP and a conservative MB positioning.

But something deep inside tells me that you might consider going "Negative Pin." on this one hehe

Of course, that might not all make sense, but good luck anyways dude and let us know what you go with!

I just saw this ball today...drilled like 5 inch pin to pap and strong mass bias...

Crazy too much backend!  Be careful!  We were all shocked.

Also thrown was a Machine near similar drilling pefect blend of lenght and backedn...in a center that often likes some strong balls and strong drillings.

Crazy big backend!

REGards,
