summer league plans, what do you guys think?
« on: April 14, 2007, 09:26:07 AM »
i havnt been bowling all that long only about a year and a half and in that time i have become a decent bowler but id like to take my game to the next level, now i average around  205-210 in a couple leagues and im playing a sport shot league but my game is very one dimentional, i tend to play around second arrow. im able to move around a little and play first or third arrows but not very well. since starting out i have bought all kinds of bowling balls and created a very nice arsenal but i think this might have hurt me more than help me because i tend to change balls when the lanes transition. so for the summer leagues i was thinking about only bringing one ball and forcing myself to make more adjustments. what do you guys think? this should make me a better bowler in the long run even though my average might take a hit at first right?
also considering my arsenal what ball would be my most versatile?

Looking at your arsenal, I would recommend taking the Machine and your White Dot for spares.  I think you have a good plan.  Playing different parts of the lane and using different releases will definitely improve your game.

Instead of using just 1 ball for the whole league I think you may be better served to use different balls from week to week just use the same ball for all 3 games. Use what ever you consider to be you benchmark ball for the first so you can get a decent read on how you will need to play the lanes with your other equipment in future weeks. I think this will teach you more about adjustments than using the same ball over and over because you will have to make adjustments even when they are fresh. One of the reasons people have become less versatile besides having many balls is the fact that lane machines have gotten better at keeping the shot the same from week to week and from lane to lane.

I am bowling the PBA experience league this summer, we will be changing patterns ever 4 weeks I think this will help me with my versatility although I do consider it to be one of my strengths. I bowl the same on everything except dry which is due to a lack of ball speed and the fact that I am much better at slowing down than speeding up. If there is one part of you game that you seem to have more trouble with I would select balls that will help you to improve in that area. For me it is using a ball that is too strong for the condition when I practice and trying to get the ball to push far enough with rotation and tilt while still keeping my soft speed.

Just my .02

I think you should bring a few balls just make sure you don't use them.  They're not nicotine, but if you HAVE to force yourself, make sure you know what kind of shot you will be bowling on at the particular house you will be bowling.  I would take the Machine because it is so versatile, but don't for get about your Arsenal Artillery!  I own one myself and must say that I love it.  Its reaction is priceless on medium oil.  It's just that the Machine is just that much stronger which would help out for longer shots.  Check out my review of the Arsenal: spinner031.
