RoboRule thoughts week one...
« on: December 19, 2005, 01:15:22 PM »
Well, I've had the chance to use the RoboRule in 2 different houses both made of 100% wood lanes. The first house I was only able to use the ball for one game of competition, as most of the other lanes were much drier and the ball would hook/stop if there was no head oil. The one pair I did find some oil on (Sunday doubles event of a tournament in Vermont)I was able to use it for a full game for a 224 start before I had to put the ball back in the bag. I was playing 15 out to 6 with 18-19 mph speed, still made a good turn at the back and didn't lose any carry power from shot to shot. Needed to play a wide angle though as when I got the ball in too tight it definitely dove through the nose.

House two was my regular Monday night league- THS with dry from 6 out, a little wetter inside of that. 41' pattern that has played funky for me this year with over/under issues. Not a problem with this ball. Started the night playing 14-6 and then made tighter moves as the night went on. Shot 246-217-212 for a 675. I left very few 7 pins compared to my other equipment on this shot (3 all night), but when I tried to fire the ball on a tighter line I would end up with a couple of bucket-styled leaves. Outside of a 3-5-6-7 split in game three it was a clean night and I was very impressed with the versatility on display. I carried light hits, flush hits, had a couple of messengers- and with a couple of hand release moves I didn't have to switch balls at all tonight (which has been a rarity among rarities in this league).

Thanks Track and all the staff on here- another winner in my book for leagues and tournament action.

Matt

thx for the review.

So, did the ball snap too much for you?

kc571: When the ball doesn't have enough oil up front, it will hook/stop based on my early experience with the ball. I found the move that it makes to the pocket is more of a strong smooth arc shape versus a skid/snap motion. Most balls with particle in the coverstock will not make jerky motions off the drier portions of the lane- and the smoothness is what I've been seeking the most in my Monday house shot league. Hope this has helped you.
