Rock77--Super Freak
« on: June 16, 2003, 08:46:08 AM »
It sounds as if we have a very similiar drilling on the Super Freak. I still have mine in box condition. I throw with alot of speed and revs. The best example I can give you of the reaction I have with this ball is this:
I was at a local tournament this weekend where every was playing really deep (right handed), 24-25 board out to 14, 12 board out was a flood. I tried this line with my Dynothane Thing and it worked well but I was having one of those nights where I was not hitting my mark consistantly. I switched to my Super Freak and played the out of bounds. 12-13 board to about 6 board and it worked great. I finished 2nd. I fought with the Thing for too long.
What I think may help you is to try to put a light compound finish on it. You may need the extra lenght so the ball will not burn up. Try 1 of 2 compounds---A very light coat of Track Clean n Sheen--or try the Storm (cannot remember the name of it for sure) but they have a compound that will take the ball to 600 with a compound finish. Either will give you good length. Make sure you do not use polish. Doing so will make the ball skid in oil, the compound will leave it very close to the overall hook you get now, only it will add a few more ft of length.

good luck.

Thanks Excalibur, I think the main reason you are able to swing the ball a bit more is because you probably throw with more revs than I do. I am going to look in to some Track Clean N' Sheen and see how that works. So all I need to do is apply the compound?? No scotch brite or any type of surface alteration other than the compound??

Rock, that is one thing I forgot to mention. Take the ball down to about 600 grit and then hit it with a light coat of the compound. Try it and adjust how much compound you use from there.

So I should use a green scotch brite first to dull up the coverstock then put some Clean N' Sheen on it. Sounds good to me!!

Yep, try it. If it does not work to your liking you can always take it back to box condition. After posting this suggestion to you I decided to try it on my Super Freak. It reacted like a Freak Out---but on steroids. It worked just as well in the out of bounds area but with a few more ft of length.

Where is the best place to buy the Clean N' Sheen?? BTW, do you recommend scotch briting the ball dry or wet??

Wet Scotchbrite is what I did. It worked well.

I buy my supplies direct from a distributor. Some bowling allies/pro shops carry it. You may be better off taking it to a pro shop and having them do it if they do not sell the Clean n Sheen.
