Rule Drilling

I just got a new Rule.  I was looking for some recomendations on drilling.  I have a med track, med speed and med revs.  I am looking for a strong arc for med to med/hev conditions.  I have been changing my game of late and have been playing more on the outside.  I want a very readable controlled drilling with decent drive on the backend.  I have been looking at the drill sheet for the ball and am kinda leaning towards Pin position 1 and 2 with the MB in position 1.  Does this sound like what I am looking for?  Thanks in advance for the advice.  BTW, I am just checking this on here to see if it is in line with what my driller is going to tell me.

Hey Wylie,

If you're looking for a stronger backend finish, keep your mb away from pos #1.  That positioning will keep the ball very even/smooth and controlled backend.  The images provided on our Track drill sheet are for reference only, it would be much better if you could supply your pap (positive axis point) info and we could give you a better idea of how to lay it out more precisely to get your desired reaction.  Thanks..

Wylie...
I agree with Rick on the MB. I like my My MB close to the rear side of the thumb hole and this is just a matter of choice and control for me. With the morpheus rev lever which is designed to get the Rule down the lane you do not need a lot of static weight in the top and finger. I point this out if your driller has not drilled a lot of Rules. The Pin placement can just about control
the flare and arc to that you want.

Wylie,

Position 1 for the MB is definately a control area. It would be much easier for us to suggest a layout if we did have your PAP location, at the very least.

Sorry guys, I'm not real sure what my PAP is.  It has been about a year since I had a ball drilled up (heart attack statement there, lol) and I never really paid much attention to it.  I know that is probably dumb, but it's true.  Now when you say MB in the 1 position is a controlled drill, which is what I want, does it still have good drive through the pit?  I absolutely want a controlled drill as I am in need of a readable "benchmark" ball.  My driller has been drilling a lot of Track equipment over the past 6 moths.  We had a Track seminar back in September, and they have been doing a ton of Track sales since then.  When they had this seminar, the one guy (can't remember his name) sat down with my driller and went over a lot of the Track Drilling Info with him.  He has drilled several rules since then, and done a pretty good job from what I have seen.  

I have another question as well.  If I have changed my style over the past month, will it change my PAP?  I have gone from really jumping on the ball at the bottom of my swing to having a much smoother swing.  In doing so, I have gone to a much more down and in type prefered shot.  I am now allowing the ball to do what it is intended to do and not forcing it to rev up earlier than it is supposed to.

I put the mass bias to the left or under almost all of my bowling balls, as I love the control it gives me. This leaves the pin under my ring finger and the cg in my palm, no extra hole. I have about 16 Track balls drilled like this, and they all hit like a truck! They have a nice continuation for me, and the balls read the lane very nicely. I don't get any surprises out of this drilling. Pretty much what the lane is doing is what I get. I have so many balls drilled like this because this is MY FAVORITE drilling, but something else may be better for you or this may not work for you either. I throw hard (18MPH) and have a high track (1/8 of an inch from fingers and thumb).

With this change that I have made in my style, will my track change?  I know My speed has picked up a bit due to a smooth swing.  Before I was basically slowing my downswing and really jerking on it at the bottom.  Does track position have anything to do with this?  I am just wondering if my changes are going to mess with the drillings on my exsisting equipment, although they haven't seemed to so far.  I am going to start converting my arsenal to all Track over the remainer of the year (and possibly into next year) and I want to find a good drilling to put on all of my equipment to keep it consistant.

Where you Track will have an effect on the ball reaction. The lower the track(spinner), the more the ball spins down the lane before grabbing and going. With a high track, I am end over end, so the ball rolls fairly quickly for me, thus the reason why I use a control drilling as well. So if you are/have been making changes, it may effect the current reaction you are getting out of your bowling balls. Your PAP will more than likely change as well, which has a big effect on Asymettrical mass bias bowling balls, such as the Rule. Where you place the mass bias in relation to your PAP will help determine the reaction you will get. Change the PAP and the reaction changes.

My local bowling alley on Sunday mornings from 9-noon, bowl for 2 hours, you can be by yourself on a lane, and you get the 2 hrs for $7. I usually bowl 12-18 games, its a great deal if I can get up that early on a Sunday.
