Rule,FreakaZoid,and Hexplosion
« on: July 15, 2004, 03:13:11 PM »
Okay guys, finally talked to Bakes about the new balls.  Here's what he had to say (great guy btw).  He watched Ameleto and Learn do some testing but said these guys were too hard to tell. Ameleto makes everything look good was the comment.

Rule: Reactive - High Performance
Very strong recovery from the midlane, saw the ball in Vegas too and said where it was normally OB/hang, the guys were able to bring it out of there.  Based on the higher rg(than the Untamed), this should get down the lane easier with a strong arcing motion in the back because the diff is listed at only .046.  His comparison was that it looked like a stronger Unleashed.

FreakaZoid: Reactive - Mid Price Plus
Just like we expected, very smooth and controlled.  Clean thru the heads and less backend than the Freak.  We both agreed this would also be a very nice ball for guys who still like to hit up on it and not have it hook off the lane.  He was very interested personally in this ball.

Hexplosion: Lite Particle - Mid Price
Unlike what I mentioned before about more length, he now said it actually has more hook than the Crash due to it's particle cover.  Same weightblock as the Hextreme, he didn't get to see this ball a whole lot.  Good introductory ball that offers more hook at an affordable price.

My personal choice?  I still want the FreakaZoid, too many O/U house shots around and this sounds very nice and controlled.  Shouldn't have to take away too much of the balls power/potential because of my speed either, I'm very eager to throw this one!

Alright, I picked mine, what's yours???

I am leaning towards the Rule myself......

Like the thought of a stronger Unleashed....if it hits like the Unleashed I will be a very happy puppy!!!!

Rick,

I've finally gotten my wish. The Unleashed in a reactive cover. I will get the Rule to replace my Untamed. (I use it but don't really like it).

I will definitely have the Freak-A-Zoid. Sounds like a ball I can use when the mid-lane starts to hook.

Thanks for the information Rick. As always we really appreciate your efforts to keep everyone informed.

I am looking very closely at the Rule and the FreakaZoid.

From what I am hearing I see the FreakaZoid being slightly stronger in the backends than the Sheer Havoc, but with a little more length.

I like the idea of the Rule because of the mention of strong arcing motion at the breakpoint. Balls that are strong at the breakpoint but are not flippy are really turning into a necessity in today's bowling environment. That kind of ball can be used on a variety of shots. Infact, I like balls that are like that on shorter patterns because they tend to hook/set better....where polish will grab the dry boards and FLY away.

Hexplosion sounds good------for control.

all of the above said, but there is no telling until I get a chance to throw them or see them thrown.

Ex, .... ??
With 2.45 and a symmetrical morpheous core ? ....longer than the Sheer ?

kotm told me the FAZ should be earlier and stronger than the Rush as well, but that didn't surprise me........

I am looking at getting the Rule and the FreakaZoid when they come out. Saw both thrown in vegas at the mini, more the FAZ than the rule, at it seems to do what it is supposed to, rev up early, yet get down the lane, with a very controlled move. The spell didn't match up with my game very well, so i think i'll skip the new hex, but the other 2 are on my wishlist

Jeff-yep, longer and stronger. Core design is just one aspect. Take reactive vs particle into the scenario. Afterall, coverstock makes up a vast majority of the balls tendencies. You also mentioned morpheous symmetrical----so none of us really know what this core is going to bring to the table, I highly doubt that it is going to have any of the tendencies of the morpheous.

You have to do a direct comparison:

Sheer Havoc:
Length: 4
Backend: 6
Core Power: 7
RG: 2.47
Diff: .048
Flare Potential: 5inches
Friction Rating: 8.0

FreakaZoid:
Length:6
Backend: 7
Core Power: 6.5
RG:2.455
Diff: .048
Flare Potential: 6 inches
Friction Rating: 6.5

2.455 vs 2.47 is really not that much of a variation between the differentials. If you look at the rest of the numbers.....freakazoid has more lenth, more backend, and a lower friction rating. So I still think longer and stronger than the Sheer Havoc. I know that kotm knows what he is talking about, so I am probably wrong. I hope I am wrong, because as I said in referance to the Rule, I like the smoother reacting stuff as opposed to more angular.

Not to mention....as I stated in your thread about crunch time vs crash....the ratings can be off.

foiled again!! For some reason, and I don't know why, I didn't pay attention to the fact that the SH is Fang Particle......duh!! FAZ is reactive.....

Thanks EX! I see.......

Rick,

Thinking Rule and FAZ ,myself.  Rule to complement Unleashed,
FAZ potentially with the TT.  Any V2 like look works well for me.
I'm going to see Mr. Learn at the LI trade show tomorrow.  I'll keep you
posted as to his thoughts...

Back from LI, where I spent considerable time talking to Chuck about the
three new balls.  His take:

The Rule - Like most of us had hoped, this is the reactive version of the Unleashed...a little stronger, if that's possible.  More angular.  Chuck said this more than likely will be the benchmark ball when looking for that (skid/flip) type of ball reaction.  Compared to the Rule, the Unleashed is a little 'softer'.  Both will hit like the proverbial truck.  He couldn't say enough about the Goo coverstock.  Right now it's proprietary to Track- (Columbia and AMF are not using it yet).

FAZ - Not a V2 type reaction.  A more controlled version of the Freak, with a
backend that won't stop driving.  It will rev up a little quicker, sacrificing
some of the Freak's angularity.  (for control).

Hexplosion - A Scout killer.  The most hook for the mid to low price buck.  I can see a lot of people buying this based on price point alone....

Bob Learn wasn't there, Marianne DiRupo was.  She hadn't thrown any of the new balls yet...

One more thing...there's another release coming in October...although anyone's guess is good at this point.  I won't even speculate...didn't have enough action to bribe Chuck ...
