Question from a new Track fan. Machine or Artillery?
« on: April 08, 2006, 08:47:22 PM »
Hello all, I have recently got back into bowling after a 10 year "break".  Actually I got burnt out after bowling from age 8-18. I am now 29 and back in the game.  The last ball I purchased was a Columbia Cuda/c in 1995. Well I guess you know I desperately needed new equipment.  I stumbled across this site while looking for bowling ball reviews, and decided to look up some info on the Track stuff I would see at local pro shops(The Bowlers Edge here in San Antonio).  I new I needed a heavy oil ball and after reading a ton of posts here by you guys I picked up a ROBO RULE. I had it drilled fairly agressive with the pin at about 5 o'clock under my ring finger. I got exactly what I needed for the heavy stuff. I've come to find out that it is too strong for some drier lanes I come across.

Now to my question.  I want to pick up a ball to compliment my Robo Rule and have narrowed it down to the MACHINE or the ARSENAL ARTILLERY.

What is the difference between the two?  Which do you prefer? I still want a strong ball for Medium  Medium/Dry conditions.  I have heard nothing but good things about both balls.

I am 100% confident you guys can help me make a decision. I've learned alot just by reading your posts, and I am start to pick up on all the technical terms you use.  I still consider myself a newbie since I've been gone for so long.  I'm a tweener with medium rev rate. I stand on the middle dot and shoot at the 2nd arrow usually. Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Add one more name to the "Revolution."

If you want something medium/dry to compliment your Robo, I would suggest the Heat Blast drilled for medium length and a strong backend reaction.
That'll cover you from light medium to heavier medium, then the Robo will take carry of anything over that.
You'd have a real nice 1-2 combo.

Glad to see you found this site there are alot of good people on here. Now to your question My go to ball for lite to medium shots is still the Arsenal Aggressive with the pin over ring. You may get ahold of Clint Daly on this site he's a TRACK staffer also owns a pro shop, there are several people on this site that are very knowedgable and TRACK staffers I just can't remember who else they are off hand.
Hope this helps.

I to would like to throw my hat into the ring for the Heat Blast! it would give you more separation from the Robo.It would also give you a slightly different look as you would have a particle and a reactive. The reactive should give you a better look on the drier side of most medium conditions. If you face real dry conditions, go for the Desert Heat instead!Out of the Machine or Artillery,i'd choose the Machine. if you need more separation between the it and the Robo, give it a quick shot of Magic Shine!

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I narrowed it down to the Machine and Artillery because they are the two newest balls released. I noticed that the Machine has the same core as the Robo Rule and both are asymmetrical, so does that make them similar. The stats on the Track description seem very close to one another.  The Artillery is symmetrical and fairly different according to the product stats and description.  I didn't even consider the Heat Blast, but it sounds good also. What is the difference between the three?  The Track description says they are all for medium conditions. Thanks again!

PS
Sorry about the double post.

Thanks for the input. Now whatever ball I get should it be drilled the same as my Robo Rule (pin placement), or does it depend on the ball? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hey gamma,

I'd go with a Machine litely polished.  I played with this cover from sanded to polished and have left it polished to get some separation from my Artillery and it works great on med to med dry conditions (for the avg tweener).

In regards to the pattern, the Machine offers a much stronger mass bias differential compared to the Robo which will have a different effect on it's overall reaction dependent upon its placement.  I'd highly recommend to discuss with your ball driller there to see what he rececommends since he/she may know your game better.  Eric Martinez (Track Staffer) is also at one of the shops I believe from seeing here on BR, maybe he can be of some help to you with his knowledge of the local bowling centers and their oiling procedures.
