Title: Rule vs Untamed
Post by: dw23 on August 02, 2004, 10:47:32 PM
I need someone to confirm the difference in these two balls. I have thrown the Untamed and I didn't like it (but I didn't like the Mutant either). I'm hoping the Rule is a little more in the back end. I will be ordering today but I would like feed back before I drill it. Thanks in advance for the help.

dw,
I was told by king of the mill from this site who saw it thrown on a brand new set of AMF synthetics on a THS by Bob Learn last Thursday, that it went about 42-45 ft and went sideways!

KOTM was really impressed with it!

I have thrown both and the Rule is much longer and much sharper at the breakpoint. My rule and untamed are drilled on a 6" by 4" with the pin above the middle finger. The untamed reads the middle very well and is smooth in the backend. The rule goes almost ten feet longer before it reads and hooks turns left very hard. The rule hooks about three to four boards more. I hope this helps.

The comparisons help. Thanks,

The Untamed didn't hit very well for me. I could get to the pocket with it on different conditions but it just didn't kick out the ten. I drilled one to roll early and it hit weak so I drilled another one to hook sharp and it still didn't get the ten out like the Unleashed. So I looked at the core of the Rule and see something very similar to the Unleashed with a reactive cover. This could be the reaction I'm looking for.

Anyone wanna make a comparison between the Rule and the Animal? I know the Track website lists both their hook ratings as 40, will they both handle the heavy stuff?

The Untamed is made for medium oil. It was made to be a skid/snap ball and that type of drilling should used. I have mine drilled 5X3 with just a little polish and it is the best carrying ball I have had and I have a lot of product drilled. DW23 try this drilling! BAMBO32 the Rule has it's own Track coverstock. I saw Del last Friday and he says that it is a hooker just behind the Animal if given a strong drilling. He had a core sample with him and with the rev lever on the left side it's gonna hook.

I also discussed this ball with Del Warren and Bob Learn......according to them it has the same hook rating as the Animal, but majority of the hook is going to be in the backend. I believe what both of them have told me, but the actual discription of the coverstock kind of says different.

If it gets roughly the same length as the Unleashed but has more backend that will definately satisfy me.

The Phenom Unleashed may be what you are looking for it is for med/hvy to hvy and it has a HUGE backend reaction.

I love my Unleashed but if the lanes are drier outside and the book-ends are soft mine doesn't react or hit consistently. I usually use dull reactives in this area due to the extra length and energy saving capabilities (Hence my attraction to the Rule).

My Untamed is much better now that I polished it. It hits a lot better and I can play deeper inside with it. It falls under my Freak-A-Zoid.

Thanks for all of the info. Keep it coming.

Hey DW,

My Unleashed was great on a cleaner shot but when it carried down or got a little spotty, the particle didn't allow me to open up that area.  So far it looks like the Rule is doing that job.  Being resin, it reads off any kind of dry stronger than my particle balls allowing me more room for error.  Hope this helps...
