Can anybody give me a good comparison of the Desert Heat and the Dry Heat? Thanks.

I currently don't have a Dry Heat so others may give you a better comparison, but I'll try to give you a relational comparison (A > B, B > C so A > C).

The problem I had with the Dry Heat was that it didn't push that well when the heads started going and also it was still too strong downlane.  It mostly hooked almost as much as my Crunchtime and Hex.  Most of the lesser hook came from the lower flare.  The cover was a solid (same as Crunch, Havoc, etc) and it had a medium RG.

The Desert Heat is a lot different.  Pearlized cover, higher RG and a lower diff.  It pushes extremely well and is very smooth off the dry.  As you can see from my videos, it's MUCH weaker than a Heat and it has a much stronger drill.  I haven't had a chance to really try it on "dry", but it allows me to square up more than any other ball I've ever had with Track.  I'm heading to Puerto Rico for a tournament next week and we bowl at 9PM so I might get a good idea how good it is

Hope that helps.

I don't have a Desert, yet, but from what I heard, it is weaker (pearl cover vs the solid on the Dry), plus the Desert's diff is lower, so it will have less track flare. The rest of the guys who have theirs will chime in and help out!

Hey Garcia,

My reaction was very similar to achappy's.  My Dry also checked up a little early and my slower speed didn't help that either.  The Desert does push downlane much easier with a little finish for the backends.

Please keep in mind when watching achappy's vids that he has a very high rev rate (not human).  Mine does not finish on the backend like his (also drilled strong).

Rick and Chappy,

What type of releases do you have? On Rick's videos, it looks like he is a spinner (Rick, correct me if I'm wrong). Chappy's ball reaction is very strong, but you cant see his body in the video. Chappy, could you enlighten us?

Hey Buck,

My pap is actually 5 over but 3/4 up.  It's not a spinner track but I do throw a lot of tilt these days in order to utilize the stronger equipment.  Bad thing is that it tends to give me quite a bit of finish when I encounter friction so I get a lot of O/U reaction.

Looking at achappy's vids tells me he still has a very firm wrist at the point of release which allows for him to have very little tilt so his ball will respond to the lane much quicker then most.  His rev rate adds to that power, hence his need for speed to help the ball go thru it's proper phases of skid , hook and roll.  I know he's been playing with laterals to help lower his rotation some so he can also utilize our stronger pieces also.  This is my analysis, better to have achappy come on and say it for himself.

The Dry Heat worked well for me on med/light conditions, but once they got really dry.....toasty.....it would want to check up a little too early. The Desert Heat does what everyone wanted out of the Dry.

I think Rick hit it right on the money.  I've been trying to cut down axis rotation so that I can get a better read and take advantage of bigger pieces.  Also, thanks to a Del and Mo, I've tried to flatten my swing the past year or so to also get a better read.  It's been a long process but I think it's coming along, judging by the fact that I've been able to use Aggressives, Xceptions and Rules all year.  My tilt has gone up (I used to be 5 7/8 over) and my rotation has come down.  So 2 years ago in those videos, I would have been probably about 7 left with the Desert Heat simply because it would have gone sideways at the backend.

And that's not sideways?....Scary.......  The more I watch him throw the ball, the more I'm tempted to start the Anthony Chapman Fan Club...

I guess I should have said "it would have looked like someone kicked it downlane instead of a just a gentle push!"
