So my GP2 hits like a marshmellow.......
« on: November 23, 2005, 05:42:36 AM »
It's 600grit, drilled stacked, pin and cg kicked out, and a weight hole. It hooks alot, but hits REALLY soft. Could this be there was not enough oil for it to get it's full potential? The lanes didn't seem very oily last night, so maybe it's burning up too early. I want it for heavy/soup, and that definitely wasn't those conditions, but wanted to try it out. Just some feedback would be great, thanks!

That is a VERY strong drill, combined with the 600 grit cover, and that GP2 is set for bear, meaning it wants and NEEDS lots of oil to work correctly. Anything short of that will make the ball use up too much energy early and lose its hit...just like you are describing!

I figured that's what was happening. I knew as good as this ball is it shouldn't hit like that unless something is not right with conditions. The test will be this weekend on a flood at a different house. Thanks for the input Clint!

I was thinking this ball comes sanded to 1000 Grit, but I could be wrong. I do know that if you use a grey scotch-brite pad with Clean & Dull (EXCALIBER's invention) to clean it and put as little pressure as possible in the pad, it will remain at NIB finish. At 600 grit, it is going to need oil to work. I recently sanded mine to 600 Grit with a Maroon Scotch Brite Pad with sanding lines running parallel to the track and polished it with 3M Finesse it II and it works great on medium oil in a wood lane house for me.

If I went to 1000 grit instead of 600, would it be more versitile on a THS? Or, just leave it for state/national/ type shots?

It is still an oil ball, so I'm not qualified to ansswer your question. Message one of the Track Staff boys. (Clint-tenpinspro-etc.)

I had my guy take it to 600, so it would be maxed out for the heavy stuff. I would be afraid it would be too close to the Absolute if I took it to 1000. I'll find out this weekend on some different conditions, and post the results.

It takes a little while to recognize burn out in a gp2, but when you get it you'll find yourself moving deeper than ever.

Ya ... my friend got a GP2 a while back (in April or May), and he's only used it twice.  It just starts burning up and hitting pretty weak middle of the first game towards the second game.  This is one of the reasons why I've stayed away from the GP2.

My Animal at 600-grit burns up so badly, I think the last time I used it was March on a heavy-oil sport shot (haven't come across anything as heavy since).

I thought the maroon/burgundy pad was closer to 320-400grit and the green pad is close to 600-grit.

I bowled a Thanksgiving tourney last night....had my super strong GP2 (pin under ring-cg toward PAP-mass bias on VAL-factory surface) and I was the only person with a shot up the gut....I was playing 5 and everyone else was going bucket-washout-miss the head pin from there...only other shot was way inside....

However, this ball on my Classic league shot and especially on Hunt's THS is instant burnout...I drilled this ball in August and I only had a game or 2 on it till last night....

I'll try it out Sunday at a travel league shot, and go from there. I bowl in Springfield every year, and those two houses are a flood. If I just get my use out of it there and some travel houses that would be alright. I could always polish it for my house and take it back down for when needed too, but I think I've got everything else covered already.
