Pitches for Players W/High Backswings
« on: August 28, 2006, 08:18:55 AM »
Hi All,
I wanted to get some ideas from people with backswings above their shoulder on what pitches they use for comfort and the least amount of grip pressure.
Thanks,
DW

i have a "rather high" backswing i use 0 side to side and 1/16th reverse. Vise thumb mold with tape in that, then add more to it after i put it in. Depends on how flexable the hand is more than the hight of the backswing. Only thing I could stay is to not go too much reverse to where you'd have to squeeze to hold on to the ball on the down swing.

DW....I agree with Eric, it should be based on your hand, thumb flexibility etc.....not backswing height.

Thanks Carl and Eric,
I totally understand the concept of hand flexibility. I have a lot of flexibility and a double jointed thumb so I need less reverse than most. I do think that the height of the backswing and hand flexibility has to be taken into account when trying to figure out grip pressure.

I have been using 1/8 reverse. I just like to get ideas from people of like styles and ability for comparison. I'm going with 0 and 1/8 left to try to hold on to the ball and lessen grip pressure.

Thanks for your comments.

Hey dw,

Don't forget to factor in your span.  Our span length also dictates the amount of forward/reverse needed.  Sorry but this is too tough to say unless I see your hand, know your span and then it is still a little bit of a trial and error process to get to what "works" and what "feels" good.  Just my thoughts bud...
