Something New
« on: November 30, 2004, 11:44:23 PM »
After joining a new league in a different center. I realize that I may need
a ball for heavy oil. In my other league I've had much success with a Flash
Point. This league I used a polished Super Charge and it wasn't even close to be enough ball. So, I guess I'm looking for something that would be a step up from the Super Charge. About me and the lanes/center:
Right handed, tweener with above average revs. Normal ball speed is around 17mph. Prefer to play deep inside, but can be versatile. My PAP is 4 5/16 over and 1/4 up. I have a low track. I average around 210-215 consistently. I'd like to go to more of a Track Arsenal. Currently use: Flash Point 5*5, Super Charge 2.5*4, Tour Power 3*5.5. Pearl Beast 3*3.

Let me know any suggestions as I'm skitish about getting really strong equipment. I've had a Cherry Bomb, X Factor, Silencer, Chaos, and others that I rarely used because I get so much hand in the ball. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Sheer Havoc drilled 5 by 4 under the fingers and a small hole. It will be a great ball and hit like a tank.

I would just add some surface to the Super Charge.

The Super can handle more oil than the Sheer, especially with a 5x4 drilling.

The super charge is drilled 2 1/2 by 4. This  drill is to be early with little backend reaction. He doesn't want a huge ball otherwise I would have said to get a Rule. The sheer havoc is stronger than most people think it is but it is not in the same class with a Rule. To sand the Super Charge would make it too early with not enough corner.

He said it wasn't even close to enough ball, I would think that means too much skid and it blows right through the break point, so more surface would be what he needs.

When you put the pin close to your axis the core tries to move in that direction early and has very little energy left to turn the corner. I have two balls, one with the pin at 4 1/2 and the other with the pin at 2. The one at 4 1/2 out hooks the other by an arrow easily. The one at 2" rolls a lot earlier but it has very litte backend.

I'm scared that with my revs, a Rule would be too strong. However, I'd be able to play using my normal faster ball speed....hmmm....

I've seen a few SHs in use. They seem very similar to a Super Charge.

Again, I agree. In box condition (500) Matte, it was too early pretty much on any condition. Perhaps just buffing the shine off with Scotch Brite may work. I like the SC polished and I REALLY need a ball for oilier conditions. I'm getting my timing back andwant to try some out of town tournaments soon.

Thanks for the input so far!!!

Atomic Charge or X-Factor Ace

I don't know if these will handle this amount of oil. Heavy/Flat/Long....
Newer Brunswick Synthetics (3 years or so) Outside 7 is really oily, nothing seems to make the turn out that far.

Guys in this league use: Goliaths, Swamp monsters, Bullies, Super Carbide Bombs, Total Annilations, Rules, Basically  hook monster oily condition type equipment.

What about a Ravage or a Track Slash.

I've looked at both and don't think they'll handle this heavy of a pattern. The Slash esp, as I loved my Triton Elite. However, for the first time in a long, long time I need a true heavy oil ball.

Brian,

I do not think a Rule would be too much ball. You just have to drill it properly. One of the great things with the Rule is that if you get it and it is too much ball a simple change in coverstock will help. I mean go with a 4 inch pin from PAP and place the MB under the thumb....or even just left of the thumb (which these should equal about 5-5.5 for most from PAP).

OR....if you are afraid that a Rule is too strong (I still think you would be alright with it), why not try the Xception? You may have to take the gloss off of the ball, but it can handle some oil especially if you have a lot of hand.

Hey Brian,

Something sounds a little strange in your request.  In regards to the balls you classified as "too strong", have you tried any of those on this shot?  If guys are throwing the hook monsters you mentioned, your stronger balls should be okay if you have a lot of turn as well.  IMHO, the Cherry Bomb, X-Factor or Silencer are just a step up from your Super Charge.  Not sure if you still have these or not, just checking.

If not, I'd go with what Ex suggests as well in regards to the Rule.  You can also drill it a little more stable to offset some of your turn.  The Xception is also a very good choice as both balls offer great strength but very controlled, not like typical resin.  Both of mine drilled in a strong position give me a very strong arc and I have a no speed with high tilt which translates typically into O/U on every shot almost...hope this helps some.
