Something to play straighter, more outside
« on: December 08, 2005, 02:24:32 AM »
Just a month or so ago I picked up an Arsenal Reactive to give me more hook and wiggle room in case I missed my mark (had been using a 7 year old Columbia Super Beast). The switch moved me in by about 5-6 boards, and made me pretty comfortable, and I was shooting rather well.

Recently one of my leagues has changed up the pattern on us, and the oil has gotten weird. Playing inside turns really tough to begin with, and the oil has gotten heavier there. There's not a whole lot of taper room, so it is pretty much wet/dry. I can't quite manage to make the Arsenal come in at a good angle; it either sits in the oil and rolls or it catches the dry and angles in too strong. So I'm looking for something that has more length with a nice finish to it.

Looking at the Track website, the Solution Power Plus EX and the Heat catch my eye. Just wondering how these balls react, and if anyone has any other suggestions. I'm a stroker/tweener with medium speed and revs.

Hey blackdog, how's it goin?
Sounds like you're on a Christmas Tree or Top Hat type pattern.
I encountered this type of shot a recent tournament and have seen it in league lately.

I have a Track Heat that I was able to match up with on this shot.

Reading the oil pattern is important and you've achieved that. On a shot similar from you're currently experiencing, I would feed the ball into the oil line (middle portion of the lane) and send it to the dry boards outside (assuming there is no Out of Bounds - Must play tighter if there is OOB present). This will get your ball to push in the heads while storing energy for the back.

Good luck!

Sounds like you may have some over under as well. A pearl ball will add to the over under as they skate on oil and start to roll over as soon as they smell dry. What I like for the condition you are describing is something along the lines of a Slash or a Solution Power Plus. Either ball will be less overall hook thant he Arsenal Reactive, and both balls read the lane very well and are very even bowling balls....no surprises when you throw them...what you see is what you get.

As a note, the 2 balls you mentioned would and will work, its just a matter of getting them drilled up properly for you. I believe there may be a better choice, but that is ultimately for you and your driller to decide on what you should go with!
