Sorry... OOB Question
« on: January 03, 2007, 10:32:27 PM »
Sorry to ask Guys,

I know that this topic has been covered at least a hundred times, but I have not been smart enough to copy and save it. Now I will though. I need the list of the OOB finishes on all of Tracks line up. I saw a real good list a few weeks back and never got around to saving it and of course now it's gone. Sorry again to be such a pain in the butt.

Thanks in advance for your help,
Mark Dodds

Thats great info!  You dont know how long I've been looking for something like this.  Now the question is, how the heck do you get 3000 grit or 3000 compound finish?  I have both the Equation and Power Machine.  My PM is still new, but my Equation is due for a good re-sand.

Ahh, thanks Six, I was thinking for 3000 grit I would sand to 2000 then take a 4000 pad and lightly skim the surface, but your option seems good too.  If only they would just make a 3000 pad.  LOL, I'll prolly just end up bringing all my stuff to 2000 abralon then put magic shine on whatever needs it.

Noy, you take 2000 abralon and light polish gets it as close as possible. Hope this helps.

In reference to the pads that Re-Evolution found, I note they are Trizac Pads. Aren't Trizac pads supposed to last longer than both Sandpaper and Abralon Pads or am I wrong about that?

For 3000 I would have went 4000 on high speed on the spinner and then light by hand with 1000, yet I will try what you said six. (DONT TELL CARL BUT ONE OF HIS LIKE 4 POWER MACHINES WILL BE THE GUINIE PIG. LOL)....................................................

It depends the actual abrasive material on a trizact pad is much harder than that used in sandpaper or abralon.
Sandpaper and Abralon both use silicon carbide while trixact uses a mixture of silicon carbide and diamond. What I find to be a major factor when it comes to both Trizact and Abralon is that the abrasives actually seperate from the foam backing sometimes. On a spinner when the media crossing over the trailing edge of a holes at the high speeds it causes a higher friction due to pad distortion causing a slight impact. When used on a Haus/Cook resurfacing machine or by hand this is not a factor and the Trizact lasts about 50% longer from what I have seen. I used to work in a body shop and I saw about the same difference when finish sanding a car. When it comes to auto paint the 3000 Trizact even cuts orange peel away faster than 2000 Abralon I think this is due to the Diamond particles being harder and sharper.

hmmm....very interesting Sean.  Does this hold true as we go even higher in grit?  For example, does 4000 cut more than 3000 as well, thanks.
