I just decided to...
« on: December 03, 2004, 08:24:50 AM »
I just made the decision to go to one ball company.  After some thought I think Track would be the best idea.  2nd was brunswick/columbia.  Track looks to have a lot of options with different ball cores, covers and reaction types.  Here is what I am thinking of setting up but no drill patterns yet, that is why I would hope the 2 head hanchos of track (EXCALIBER and tenpinspro) would help me out with any input.  I have a few ideas and they are as follows:

Animal- 3 3/8 pin to PAP and MB 1/4" right of VAL.
Rule-3 3/4 pin to PAP and MB 2" right of thumb
Xception-3 5/8 x 3 5/8
Xception-maybe a pin over ring and mb 2" right of thumb
Sheer Havoc-3 3/8 x 5 (label leverage)
Crash-5 x 5
Freak-A-Zoid-?
Hexplosion-5 x 5
Dry Heat-4.5 x 5

Nothing is for sure as I have all blank NIB's right now of these balls.  My PAP is 4 3/4 right and 1/2 up but I am getting it remeasured this tuesday just to make sure.  My tilt is 2 1/4.  Medium speed and medium revrate.  LMK what you two can come up with if anything.  Thanks in advance!

Ike,

I have never talked to Excaliber, but his opinion is highly regarded on
these boards. I have, on the other hand gotten advice from Rick and it
was right on the money. Good luck.

Ike, You can't go wrong with any thing from, Excaliber {Carl}, or tenpinspro {Rick}.

 Super nice and very good.

Ike,

I really like the layouts you chose(I am to believe that the Xception 3 5/8x 3 5/8 is pin and MB??).....except the Rule. The MB placement is good, but instead of 3 1/4 pin from PAP I would want the Rule to get down the lane a little more. I would probably go with 3 3/4 pin from PAP. You will be taking better advantage of what the Rule is made for. Length (for a dull ball) with very good backend for a dull ball. It will give you enough seperation from the Animal while at the same time still be more than the Xceptions.

Freakazoid: This is just one of those balls that works for every style. I suggest just placing your favorite layout on this ball and watch it work!!!

Crash: Use this ball to get some more length, go with something like a 5x5. If you are going to set up an arsenal, this ball drilled this way will compliment the rest of these balls nicely.

Hexplosion: I would drill this with a similiar layout to Crash. This ball will give you a more tame breakpoint than the Crash. When the Crash is just coming in too hard on the backend switch to the Hexplosion and you will be able to play a more "consistant" line.

Dry Heat: This ball is very tricky to suggest a drilling for without seeing you bowl. For some bowlers it can be too strong at the breakpoint to be a dry lane ball. If you tend to have things "snap" too much sometimes in order to use them on drier lanes, then I suggest putting a control kind of drill on this ball. I had mine drilled 4.5 x 5 (with the pin below the ring finger) and it absolutely had to hit dry in order to move at all.

I hope this helps, and if you have any other questions, feel free to message myself or Rick.

Hey Ike,

Sorry for the delay but my pc blew up.  Here's what I see...

Animal- 3 3/8 pin to PAP and MB 1/4" right of VAL.
*Sounds fine, just sand cover as needed to handle the heavy oil

Rule-3 3/4 pin to PAP and MB 2" right of thumb
*Like Ex suggests, push the pin back to help get the ball downlane for more backend strength

Xception-maybe a pin over ring and mb 2" right of thumb
*Drill similar to the Rule, mine is about 4-5 less with the same pattern

Freak-A-Zoid-?
*About a 4x3 for control and strong arc on med conditions

Hexplosion-5 x 5
*Sounds good

Dry Heat-4.5 x 5
*Sounds good

This should make a nice arsenal, let us know if we can be of any further help.  I

My proshop guy and I found my PAP again.  It is now 4 3/4 right and 1/2 up so now I am staying more behind the ball which raised my pap. Thanks to Rick and EX again for all your help.  Nice to seen you back in action Rick!
